paint and wood damage due to heat of the sun

The front of our house gets full southern sun. Last summer I stripped the door and shutters, filled the cracks with epoxy, primed and painted them. Now just a few months later the joints are recracking. The front of the house gets hot enough that I was able to strip the paint by placing the shutters on the stone stoop wait an hour and strip off the paint just like I was using a heat gun. Is there anything that can be done to stop the cracking and peeling in this instance?
