Pretty much any color except "builder beige" is appropriate for a guest bedroom. If you go with anything in the red or orange family, I'd go with something on the "earthy" side.

I like the idea of using a terra cotta color. William Morris prints were based on nature and things found in nature what could be more natural than terra cotta?

Thanks all, I thought a good deal about this today and even dug out all the fabrics. the terra cotta is at the top with a slightly peachy color in second. If you are familiar with morris prints, the ones I have are Blackthorn (orange and brown var.), golden lily (yellow var.) Compton, Crysanthemum (blue and ivory var.) and Grenada (blue and red var.) s oyou can see they are all over, but they go well together and seem to be liking the orange-family of paint colors I am trying out.

One other concern is that the old Walnut of the furniture is very orange. and the room is southern exposure. is it just going to look like flames of hell ?

Being that it's a southern exposure it might have a glow to it but it shouldn't be anything like the "flames of hell". It should seem warm and homey. You can diffuse the incoming light with window treatments which not only will control the light coming in but protect your furniture from the sun.

Terra cotta sounds good. I also seem to remember an historic color that was something like "old roses" or a muted cabbage rose color - but I'm thinking those were more colonial revival. I see it in the old layers of paint from my 1913 home. Just a thought in case you do think the terra cotta is to "flame-ish"...

Those color choices sound like they are in the ballpark of what I am looking for (the more orange ones) to put on my dining room walls. Is there a website that I can see them on? Thanks!

I do like the idea of a "rose" kind of color, too. ill grab a few paint chips in that kind of range and see how they work with the fabrics. The nice thing about the rosey color spectrum is it will make the walnut look good without being too close in color. thats my biggest concern now with the orangey colors, they may be too close to the walnut and just make it too monochromatic. (although, thats another thought, go all orange and let it be ...)
