building a bookcase over baseboard heat

homebound

In our basement activity room, I'd like to get more use out of a 12' wall with hydronic baseboard heat. I am considering methods and options for installing shallow depth cabinets or half-height bookcases above the baseboard.

On the one hand, I suppose I could assemble some boxes and hang them on the wall (above the baseboard, allowing full air flow clearance). I also found the following alternative, which adds support from the floor.

Any thoughts on these or other solutions? Thanks much.
