Well now that we know what your style ISN'T, what do you think it might be?

I didn't go seeking a ranch either, and I had a hard time with the 8' ceilings after living in my 1920 Craftsman for 12 years. But for our remodel we do seem to like a modern look. And we were able to raise the ceilings, too.

One day maybe I'll be able to live again in bungalow style. What do you pine for?

I think it would be described as country casual - love animals and need a space that won't be easily destroyed. I also love antiques but have no idea how to incorporate with the sleek ranch style.

I bought a 1958 ranch last year. Everyone thought I was crazy as the outside is not very attractive but, the house location and lot were exactly what we wanted. If I had the time and money I would have knocked it down. It is what it is though and we are having fun living in it with our huge yard. I'm not sure what your question is but, location can make up for a lot of things.

The question is when I remodel, do I need to stick with the modern style with no trim work or detail, or is it ok to go with a more country or casual style with some detail.

It is your house and you should do what you like. I wouldn't have the same answer if was a colonial over 100 yrs but a 60's ranch, do what you like.
