stainless steel sink

We're building a new home and the stainless steel kitchen sink I ordered more than 5 weeks ago just arrived. It has a small (half-inch long, quarter-inch deep) dent at the edge of the front rim. Does anyone know if this can be successfully repaired? And if so, what sort of company/craftsman might do such things? The on-line company I ordered from is willing to replace it, but I can't wait another month or more. I called a local metal fabricator but they said it isn't something they do. Home Depot can order the same (apparently not very popular) model, but theirs will take three weeks and cost $90 more. Our builder is already upset that it took so long to get this one, but doesn't think it can be successfully undented. He would really like me to just get a standard two bowler, but I really want this large one-bowl model. Any opinions?

Without seeing exactly where the dent is, its hard to tell if it can be undone easily. The size dent that you describe is not that large however. I'd think someone who has done auto body work or a good blacksmith might be able to take a crack at it, carefully hammering the dent out into a form, without thinning the metal. John

Thanks for your reply, John. I found a plumber who is willing to take a shot at it, though he said it won't be quite like new - better than waiting another five weeks for a new one (that could be dented, too!)
