How do I age a brass colored light socket chain?

| I just purchased a small dark colored table lamp. However the socket has a cheap looking high polished brass coated chain hanging out of it. Does anyone ahve an idea of some solution or method of darkening the chain or adding some age to it? Maybe some secret "snake oil" that can be placed on it to kill the brightness.
