Updating my wrought iron railing

| I have a iron railing in my 40 year old house. Outside from needing a good painting, it is in great shape. I would like to update it by adding a wood handrail to the top. The problem is that the railing does not have a flat top to it, rather a curved, decorative top that is saddered to a flat top. Is there a way to remove this top? or is this even the best way to go. How would you advise going forward with this project. Any advice or tips you could give would be great. |

| If you get a small grinder with a cutting blade. Cut the welds in half. This should be on the underside of the decrative top piece. When all welds are cut, you should be able to remove the cover rail. Than take a 1/4" thick grinding rock and smoothe out all of the welds that are left on the flat bar. Than the surface is ready for the wood. To install the wood, you will have to drill holes in the flat bar for instilation. Farmer |
