 o
polishing sintered bronze

Posted by breadhead (My Page) on

I am not sure if this is the proper forum for this question but I will try anyway. I have a set of sintered bronze sleeve bushings that came from the factory with a pretty good internal polish but I would like to bring this up to a high mirror finish. Would anyone have any suggestions? Thank you very much.
Jim

RE: polishing sintered bronze

Is it straight bronze or Oilite? The latter would need solvent/vacuum removal of ~18% lube.
Get some felt bobs to closely match your ID. Rock hard felt with cutting compound will cause metal flow to smear over sintering discontinuity. A softer bob with rouge and then Brasso or the like should yield your mirror.
Have a good way to hold the work, gonna get hot.
