copper question

I've got a couple questions regarding a large (20''W by 38'' L by 10'' D) copper pan that we use as a sap evaporator.

It leaks slightly in a couple spots along the joints. How would I go about repairing these?

Also, we've been toying around with the idea of modifying this into a bit more functional evaporator by inserting two dividers lengthwise. Do these need to be copper or could they be stainless or some other material? How would the joints to the main pan be best achieved? Thanks in advance for any help!
