| I am trying to do a frame, like a picture frame, around my gas firebox.
The manufacturer hasn't been able to help, the custom maker for the local fireplace store doesn't want to take it on and I am at my wits end. I want brass and or steel that I can color to gold or brass. I could guild steel with gold leaf but am worried the gold will melt and what about the sizing (glue) that holds the gold leaf on? I was told that galvanized metal off gasses in the heat. The metal does get pretty hot around the outside of the firebox. I found brass metal picture frame but the configuration makes it hard to fit to fire box.

| The short answer is that you should not modify a manufactured fireplace. It is designed to work safely, and tested by a laboratory to verify that it works properly. If you make changes in it, you can create safety hazards or cause it to quit working. As a fireplace repairman, I have seen this many times. It looks like a very attractive fireplace. Don't screw with it. |
