exterior aluminum cladding

Not sure which forum is best for this question.

My house, a 30 year old "California contemporary" has a good deal of wide, stained/painted cedar trim boards-rake, corners, lintels, etc. Much of it is in need of paint/ stain. I prefer low maintenance for the exterior.

Has anyone ever done their own aluminum cladding? For about 1/5 the price of contracting it, I could buy a break (brake?)

some coil stock, nails , caulk and I could do it piecemeal over a summer; then sell the break.

What allowances are needed for thermal expansion/contraction? (I live in No Illinois)
