Metal Gate & Fensing: What product is better?

Posted by movin-on (My Page) on

We are in new construction and would like to have a metal gate and fence installed around our carport. We have heard several stories on which is better and now my DH and I are totally confused and frankly, we just don't know!

We live in South Texas - heat and humidity are a factor, we want no maintenance.

The gate will be 14 ft wide and about 4-5' tall. Which is the better type of gate to install?

Here are our questions:

1. Do we use steel, aluminum or wrought iron
2. Which metals must be power coated?
3. Our finish must be black -- what finish will not blister and peel?
4. We are on a budget but if money were no object what is the best product to use?

Thanks QWeb - I appreciate your help
