Copper Cookware Finish

I've read a couple places that you can get old, stubborn lacquer off of copper cookware by using oven cleaner, eg, Easy Off. Has anyone here used oven cleaner on copper without damaging it?

You could try CLR, it say's...

CLR will take the finish off of aluminum and copper.

Brasso and elbow grease

"stubborn lacquer off of copper cookware"

Are you sure this is cookware meant to be used?

lacquer is not going to stand up to flames or electric heating elements well at all.

ETA: Lacquer thinner will wipe it off easily (if it is really lacquer).

Use outdoors with chem resistant gloves.
It is VERY flammable, and will badly dry your skin by removing ALL the oils.

It is a long term exposure hazard, but a single use is not problematic with good ventilation (like outdoors).
