Cast iron to steel?

Posted by bruceman (My Page) on

Is it possible to weld cast iron to steel effectivly using a stick welder? I tried using 7014 rod. It wasn't pretty. The steel adhesion was fine but it popped off the cast when I pushed on the two pieces.
If anyone has any advice or tips, I would sure appreciate it.
I also have a oxy/acetylene torch.

To weld cast iron you need a rod with nickel in it. Check out the site below.
