Interesting newspaper articles

Several months ago I posted here about a Canadian group who had reached the conclusion that healthy women should not be encouraged to use even non-invasive/non medical screeing tests like Breast Self Examination because of the risk of overdiagnosis and treatment. In today's New York Times Gina Kolata, the NYT heath and science reporter has published an interesting article on the dubious value of screening and the risks to which screening exposes a healthy individual. The entire article is on line at

I believe that the New York Times site requires free registration

There is also a timely article on the influence of money in medical research in the Washington Post magazine this week at the web site below.

The Post does not require registration but the article will only be available free for 1 week.

Thanks Leigh I read the Washington Post article. Very informative.

RE: Interesting newspaper articles

The above statement is seen to be contradictory. The situation is very critical and need an experience complainer to resolve it.
