56 and no menopause

I will turn 57 in January, yet menopause seems years away. My period started (again) two days ago, and I am in a fetal position with cramps, pain, and passing large clots. In the last six months the cycles have dropped from every month--to every other month--yet there seems to be no end in sight. My doctor (female) says "don't worry about it." I feel like a freak of nature. I also have fibromyalgia, so each time the cycle continues the cramps and PMS gets worse. :(

I was 57 when I went into menopause but I do not have fibromyalgia. Your doctor should be able to measure your hormones. Best of luck.

I turned 58 in October. I didn't start skipping periods until last spring. I haven't had one since August, so I'm hoping I won't have any more! We're in the 'older' range for menopause, but my freind's sister had periods until she turned 60!
