weird weather...
Comments (19)I'm a native Floridian, too, and to me, I see mostly the same types of changes we've always had. In other words, while the "normal" predictions would be dry winters/springs and rainy summer/fall afternoons, I've also seen years where it was all turned upside down. And I've seen those crazy years throughout my 63 years here. Also, we have NOT had a rainy summer here in the Sanford area at all. We have had the driest June and early July I can remember, with rains only just starting up again about 3 weeks ago. And barring this past week, no all day rains at all. Yesterday, I went to Gainesville, and it rained all day up there, but I came home to find it had only sprinkled here for a short time in the afternoon, and that was all. I guess what I'm saying is that 1) there have always been years when the weather deviated from what's considered "typical" in Florida and 2) it isn't deviating from that typical type of weather in all areas of the state, even this year. This does not mean I don't think weather patterns as a whole are changing, because I do. Just that Florida has always been a land of alternating drought and monsoon, and it still seems that way to me, even though my area has had way more drought and very little monsoon in 2007. Comments (59)I've been having a lot of symptoms of peri-menopause since July. I've been doing research and my dh is a physician, so I kind of run stuff by him a lot. Anyway my symptoms started with that weird "out of sorts feeling" like I wanted to crawl out of my skin. Then I started having anxiety attacks in the most unlikely places, like the grocery store. I talked to my obgyn about it and they said "we could prescribe an anti-depressant" but I knew I wasn't depressed so I said no. (Hate the side effects). I said what about anti-anxiety medication just in case this happens at work or if I feel really out of control. She said "well, anxiety is not clinically associated with peri-menopause so you will have to ask your internist." But the weird thing is that on every menopause forum (like this one) women talk about anxiety. So at least I didn't feel crazy. I only found one clinical study that associated anxiety with hot flashes. To make a long story short, I went to my internist and asked for Xanax for anxiety. It was hard to do anyway and she wasn't eager to prescribe it so I felt like a jerk. I wanted to say "look lady, I'm not a drug addict." I just wish there was more help for us in this phase of our lives and I'm sorry for all the women on this forum who have to go through it and feel humiliated to boot. So anyway, that was about a month ago and I have taken the Xanax 3 times, at night when feeling anxious to help me sleep. It's been a great blessing. I know it's not a natural remedy, but I tried everything else and it hasn't helped much. I just think the best approach is to tell our docs that we are having anxiety attacks and not blame it on peri-menopause because they don't believe it's related....See MoreDawn redwood "gold rush" question...*pics*
Comments (14)I really think it is the Japanese Beetles. Now that I'm thinking about it, lawn herbicides are tested and are safe-ish around most trees but you know, capitalism, practicality and testing for safety have their conflicts...what was that killing pine trees up north a few years back.... But if there is ANYTHING in my yard the herbicide companies did no testing with it is probably Metasequoia. Still, thats just a random thought. I blame the beetles as your most likely culprit....See MoreCoping with Menopause
Comments (0)Ladies, just wanted to share my experiences with battling menopause in hope that it will help and encourage you. I didn't go into menopause until I was 55. Am now 57. I too have the weird adrenaline rushes and being slightly Ocd this causes me health concerns and I start body cking. I have found when I do this l am having a terrific hot flash. Mine also began when I took a round of antibiotics for a bladder infection. I think other things were in play with the hormone levels. I found that sugar causes this and I already don't do caffeine. Also tried hrt but it didn't help me that much. Dr just upped my Zoloft and said it would help my anxiety, which I always had but now is magnified. This was the nurse at my gyno office that told me about the Zoloft helping. Also look into fermented foods. I crave sugar. The thing that really helps is watching the sugar I take it and caffeine will cause hot flashes....See MoreMkj Bar
