55 yrs. old and still having periods
Comments (145)I am 55 and have been on birth control pills for the last three years. Doctor says I should get off of them because I shouldn't be taking them at my age. I have enjoyed a period, symptom free, glorious three years. Reading this blog Im terrified to go off of them. I dont want all of this to start again. I may get off of them for a few months and get the blood test to see where I am hormonally. I have had friends who have gone through menopause on the pill - gotten to the other side and were symptom free. My doctor also wants me to have an ablation because of my age. After reading about that theres no way. There is NOTHING WRONG with me. I have a bmi of 19%, I count my macros and do Crossfit four times a week. I dont want to goof myself up. Clueless what to do. Oh and family history wise.....my mother was 40 when I was born and she's 94 now and still kickin! Help!!...See MoreCan Peri-Menopause Reverse?
Comments (3)Boy, can I relate to this post. I could of wrote this myself. I had an FSH of 29 two years ago, along with horrible symptoms of irregular heartbeats , extreme anxiety, Insomnia...on and on. The Doc said early Menopause, I had it retested last month, it was 4 !!!!! I had the same reaction as you... I am expecting the worst, as some of my symptoms have lessened , now I am thinking it will all start over full force. I had waited to re-test the FSH , and thought that maybe I was Post , as I have felt somewhat better with some of the symptoms... I had my Uterus removed 15 years ago, so no periods to help establish where I am in all this. I am confused as to what this all means just like you, You are the first one I have found to have the same issue, sorry for you, but a relief for me to have someone to talk to !! I am wondering if it has something to do with he Thyroid.. as I am Hypothyroid, with Hashimotos Disease. I was curious before, but now I see you have Thyroid issues also, wondering if there is a connection... the Thyroid is part of the Endocrine system like the Ovaries ... Anyways, I feel like I am rambling.. just know that you are not alone, and I hope you fee better knowing that someone else is dealing with the same craziness, I know I sure do. Peace, Rebecca...See MoreVery long menstrual period
Comments (15)Wow, its been almost 2 years since I originally posted..( I am this thread creator, my name was Mtn-Grl) .My periods are still the same, one month its just 2-3 days, very light, just spotting, and then after 2 weeks I get the heavy one that lasts 14-20 days. Very unconvienient, I am soaking through very fast. So I got my insurance back, went to the doctor. He sent me to the specialist. Checked for fibroids, turns out, they're too small to operate, the doctor didn't think its necessary to remove them. He found something else. The very thick layer of my inner uterus lining. He said its abnormal and in few weeks I'll be going to the surgical center, so they can get samples of my uterus. It freaked me out. Especially after my doctor said he did not like it. And, although this is the different doctor, he says I am not in peri stage yet. I really don't get it. I have all the symptoms. Plus even more now - my skin itches all the time. ( I moisturize it and take good care of my skin) but it itches every now and then. All over my body, my shoulders, my calves, my back etc. And the panic attacks, they got worse, too. I am at work, talking to the customer, smiling and joking, friendly conversation and suddenly BAM, I feel tingling in my face and this weird feeling in my head like I am disconnected from the world around me. So I rub my forehead in embarrassment ( I have a feeling that people could see my fear ) drink a lot of water ( which I have with me at all times, it helps) and try to convince myself "Its just a stupid panic attack" Sometimes it goes away, sometimes it lasts longer. I am terrified of passing out and losing consciousness , it happened to me before - for no reason at all. SO I am always scared it will happen again. Sometimes I cannot take a deep breath, my stomach hurts and I have to run to the bathroom. And everything seems to be all right, my blood sugar, my blood pressure and heart rate. I would be really happy to know that I am entering perimenopause, then I could blame everything on it but the doctors say that's not it. Well, lets see what they say after they take my uterus samples. For now I just have to live with it. Trying to think positive :)...See MoreRecent "diagnosed" with menopause still having periods??
Comments (1)Yes it does. I am 63 - menopause hit at 57. But last year I started spotting so I called my doctor and I had to go for the water-drinking horrible ultrasound. It revealed a thickened uterine lining and small fibroids so I had to go to a gyno. She did the biospy in her office - it really hurt and she couldn't get much but fortunately just enough for the lab to check for cancer. There wasn't any. She prescribed 2 prometrium pills of 100 mg a day for 4 months and that took care of the problem. Jump forward to Sept. of 2013 and the spotting was back so once again the horrible ultrasound and then the biopsy in her office. Again she managed to get just enough - although she was doubtful. Had the lab not had enough of a sample to check for cancer I would have had to go into the hospital for a biopsy - I expected it would be by a local, much like a cysto - but no, you are put under. I am one of those who do not sedate well - it has the opposite effect. A local that should last 3 hours will last maybe 5 - 10 minutes at most. A doctor can put me under but I won't stay under for long. So I was grateful that I didn't have to have that done. In your situation I think the test is required. People think that I have a higher tolerance for pain than the normal person - I don't - I just know what is going to happen. Actually the gyno was very impressed that I didn't say boo on her table. I hope everything works out for you, but if you don't take the test and you do have a major problem you will kick yourself later. Despite knowing what would happen to me in the hospital I would have been there in a nanosecond - or however long it took for the gyno to arrange the test - I live in Canada so probably a year....See Morecatherinet
