Does the Pain ever go away?

Once you are finished going through all the menopausal symptoms, does the pain and pressure go away?

How about the mood swings and irritability?

Is it just the "going through it" time frame with all the symptoms, and once you arrive.. it all goes away?

Or, is this IT? This is life now?

Thanks, I am curious, and hoping for the END of all this.

I am wondering the same thing. Maybe we will hear from some ladies who are considered to be through, or over menopause who will tell us what to expect. Sometimes I think once menopause starts it never ends, or just goes from one symptom to another. LOL

I would like an answer to this question too.

Once the hormones have done their thing and we are no longer perimenopausal and into the big menopausal, do all the symptoms leave us?

Will we be normal at any point again in the future, or is this the "schtick" from now on.

Kill me if it is.

I feel your weather pain too. It is dreary in Chicago. I am so looking forward to taking my plants outside. What's worse, after a whole winter of struggling and keeping the plants healthy, instead of getting more leaves, I get SPIDER MITES! So, I've been spraying with a diluted soap and water mixtures and now all the leaves are gone. Sigh! Nixon

I'm going through that right now. She's a neighbor which makes it worse. This woman calls me every day on the phone expecting to chat for an hour or two or three. My handset has a speaker so I just let her talk away while I clean the house. Nothing I hate more than a person who talks AT me instead of TO me. Have you met people like that? You start to appreciate there is an art to conversation when you meet people who don't understand that it should be TWO WAY! She talks, I listen. I have no sympathy for her problems because she's so self-serving. Has no interest in my life. Day after day she calls mostly to repeat what she said the day before. She lives alone. Talking on the phone is her favorite pasttime whereas when I'm bored I turn on the TV or get on the internet. When I tried to ween her off of me by not answering the phone she started calling at odd hours like 10pm or 9am in an effort to catch me. She would even show up at my door if I didn't answer the phone after a couple days. I can't not ever answer her calls or she'll think I've died or something so now I "return her phonecall" with an email. She hates email because she can't monopolize the conversation and you're in control. That's what I recommend you try. Don't answer her phone call, instead reply by email so you're still being polite. With a properly scripted email you can impart a message without being overtly rude. Doesn't require brutal honesty. The shorter the response the quicker she'll realize you aren't interested in her. If I'm not home when my neighbor calls she'll have a conversation with MY ANSWERING MACHINE! She doesn't just leave a message she will talk until the machine cuts her off. DH laughs that even the machine can't listen to her for very long. She's the only person who has ever run the time out on my machine. A couple of times she's run the battery down on my handset because she's talked so long. I thought we had been disconnected but a slow walk to the other end of my house to pick up another receiver revealed that we hadn't. I just wanted to call her back to explain I didn't hang up on her when I realized we hadn't been disconnected. She was still talking! Completely unaware that there was no one on the other end. Didn't matter a bit to her. LOL The problem comes when people are too dense to pick up on "social queues". Those are the ones we all loathe because they force you to act in a way you'd rather not ...rude, curt, or the bearer or the silent treatment. But when polite hints fail you do what you gotta do!

I have some word signs. Hand made on reclaimed wood with a bible verse that is important to me and another with a saying that means something to me. I have noticed that word art is everywhere. I am not a fan of most of what I see in stores because I like that I made my art myself with words that I thought about before using and hanging on my walls. I do have one "store bought" sign (it's just the word FAMILY) but I bought it bc it is the perfect shade of red in a room that needed one more red item. When and if I find something else to take its place in the future I won't feel bad about replacing it because it didn't cost much. I bought it at Homegoods. I didn't think my signs were pedestrian. But this isn't the first time that reading a thread has made me realise my decor choices aren't cool, original, or in vogue at Gardenweb. Regardless, I love what I put on my walls and it is me and my family that has to read them every day...so they stay. If a friend chose not to visit because of the way that I decorate...well that's a friend I don't mind losing.

Our old dog had them. A friend of mine is a vet and she said they were just fatty rumors, nothing serious. They were big, but soft and didn't bother him. We never had them checked out by our own vet since my friend was not concerned about them. He was almost 17 when we finally put him down due to old age (he was a 75 lb lab so lived really long). If they concern you, perhaps get a second opinion. I trusted by my friend - would've used her as our primary vet but she works p/t at emergency clinic so we used a regular vet. I mentioned the bumps when she was over one day, she checked them out and kept an eye on them over the years but nothing ever came of them.

Hello everyone, I am 53 years old and have not had a "period" in about 11 1/2 months. I experience cramping in my abdomen and I was wondering if this is the pain and pressure you are talking about. Sometimes I think I am going to get a period for sure and then the cramps subside after a few days. I also still have painful breasts on occasion. I am not taking HRT in any form because of cancer in my family (my mom had ovarian cancer) My OB is not too pleased by my choice, but hey ladies, THIS IS MY BODY! I am wondering the same thing, does this pain ever go away. Well, it is Thanksgiving so I guess I better go take care of the turkeys (my hubby and the traditional thanksgiving bird too) Everyone have a wonderful day. Thank you to all who write back.

It is Thanksgiving here too right now, and we are all done eating and I have the kitchen cleaned and everyone settled down and about to watch "Miracle on 34th Street" on American Movie Channel.

I was hoping there would be an answer too by now.

Yesterday, I made an appointment with the closest gynie that does "Menopausal" work as a main focus. That will be on January 8th. Hopefully, I will get some answers then.

Anyone out there reading this? Hailing all Menopausal Brains to answer!

At 53, I'm not there yet, still having periodic visits. I have been told that it does get better, just not sure when. I know I have felt much better since beginning to use some soy supplement and progesterone creme. My guess is that whether its gets better or not you just cope and forget it. If it does get better why would you still want to visit a board like this? I suppose only if you wanted to share your experiences or didn't have anything else to do. I think peri is worse, first the denial, then the indecision, then with action you begin to feel in charge again. Good luck with your change in drs. I think I will change this year for the check up also. Haven't been impressed with the one I've seen the last 2 times. Need to make the appointment, just haven't.

Because so many people confuse signs of aging with signs of menopause, it's impossible to answer this question with an unqualified yes or no. Yes the hot flashes go away or decrease to a level to where you don't really notice them much. The insomnia pretty much disappears. The "fog" disappears. You may find yourself more assertive and a little less willing to suffer fools patiently.

The aches and pains that go along with an aging body won't go away though. The wrinkles and grey hair aren't going to go away.

The above is true if you don't use exogenous hormone preparations. If you do use those you will not be post menopausal in a biochemical sense. Instead you will remain perimenopausal for as long as you take these drugs and hold back your body's natural transition to post menopause.

I had my last period in Nov. of 1994. I still have a few mild hot flashes every day but I seldom even notice them now. I sleep reasonably well, have no memory or cognitive problems, and can honestly say that I've never felt better in my life. I take no drugs or otc supplements of any kind.

From my experience the pain doesn't. I am 55 and I have been going thru menopause for 8 years. I really had a pretty good grip on it by taking Trazadone to sleep, watching my health/diet/mild exercise etc...until they decided because of a BRACA test/family history to remove my ovaries.......WHOA. Three months and the body pain is hell, so much so I feel like I am 90. I have always been fit, a professional ballet dancer.....now I can barely walk 2 miles because the muscle recovery takes days. My 85 year old mother is doing better than I because she still takes estrogen and they won't give me any...

Don't have surgery to prevent cancer it ruins the quality of one's life, makes you feel 90 inside too fast.

I am going to find a way to get estrogen if I have to break into a pharmacy to do it....(kidding)
