I guess most posts like this eventually attract spammers, but I was surprised to get a post from a thread I started nearly four years ago! For what it's worth to those who are experiencing a little hair loss, I still seem to have hair going down the drain -- but I have just as thick a head of hair as ever! Still wash my hair nearly every day, but periodically I'll use simple castile soap with a couple of drops of either peppermint, eucalyptus or rosemary essential. (Couple of drops per bottle, not application!) I don't think it necessaryily does anything but give my hair a break from the usual shampoo, but it does tingle the scalp and make my head smell great! So I guess in my case the hair loss was no big deal -- hope Tina and others with more serious cases were able to find a successful resolution!

I was on Warfarin for 6 months 4 years ago and noticed my hair coming out terribly. I joined a blood clot list and several people there suggested taking 5000 mg of Biotin once a day. Some of them said it helped theirs grow back. Mine never did and I am so glad it was very thick to begin with. However, it did stop it from falling out like it was and I noticed about 3 months later my nails became nice and hard. I was a skinny girl, all the way to about age 30. Kidded until adolescence, then envied all through my teens. Lucky. Eat anything, not gain. Didn't exercise. It's high metabolism. But into my mid to late 30's I had to start exercising to not gain weight, if I wanted to continue the same eating habits. I see-sawed with exercise over the years since then. Then one day 3 years ago I discovered I weighed 175 lbs. My frame was used to 120 lbs. most of it's life, and this was a major burden. I bought an exercise bike, dropped carbs for 3 weeks. Re-introduced carbs gradually, to about half of what I formerly ate. Lost 30 lbs. Reality now is I have to exercise and not eat what I want to, have to be satisfied with 1/2 of what I formerly ate. I still eat anything.. just not much of it. 20 min. of hard cycling 3 mornings a week, just to keep my present weight of 145-150 lbs. Repeat to myself, eat quality, not quantity, quality, not quantity. I always thought it was metabolism, it being much lower now than when I was young. If it's hormones, does that mean when I go into total menopause, I'll not have to work as hard at cycling? ;-D

I hereby confer the degree of Doctor, K.T. on y'all! I did run a 102 fever with the pneumonia. Bet that's what happened. I'll keep on with the FE tablets though, since the blood tests did show low iron. (Maybe it was the raspberries, not the iron tabs that gave me tummy trouble! LOL) My hair isn't comming out in clumps, just individual strands -- root bulb intact. I'm not 'shedding' like a dog in spring, but there's just more hair on my brush and comb, etc. I thought of one other possible cause. DH and I decided we could survive without taking our multi-vitamins to Maui last winter, and we just never resumed taking them. I've filled up our dispensers today and we'll get back on thosse. Thank you all for your thoughtful -- and *helpful* -- posts. Now I'm going to start another one to see if you have ideas for DH's skin problem. (No rest for the helpful!)
