If the trunk is that loose but the rootball remains stationary, then it may well be that major roots were severed, either courtesy of wind storms or perhaps your rabbit or other critters. That doesn't spell a good outcome for the tree. Not an ideal time to do so, but I'm not sure you've got a lot to lose at this point. I'd dig up the tree, remove ALL the soil from the rootball (gently, using water) and examine the root structure. If there is still a decent root system (a couple of major, intact, non-circling structural roots and sufficient finer feeder roots, then go ahead and replant. I'd also consider staking again, as per above, especially if subject to a lot of wind. If not an adequate root system or if obviously broken or torn major roots, you may want to think about starting over with something new. FWIW, washing the roots or essentially bare rooting the tree may be the way to go in the future with any new plantings. This way you can be assured that any issues with being root bound or correcting girdling or circling roots have been properly addressed.

It is always fun to read how many different ways there are to live our lives and tend to business. As I read through the thread, I immediately note the points that ring my chimes! My side-by-side Kenmore w/ ice maker and water dispenser in the door is 19 years old. Not only have I never had a problem w/ it, I have NEVER moved it - which means, of course, that the dust must be pressed into diamonds by now. For me and my then DH, the irony of the ice maker was that he had recently sobered up - and we had much less call for ice as the result. However, I love having it. Yes - if you don't use the ice - it DOES taste funny - picks up freezer odors - so I sometimes have to dump the bucket and let the new ones accumulate. I hope my posting this isn't going to give my unit "ideas". In the 19 years since moving into the house w/ all new appliances, I have replaced only the washer/dryer (last year) and the hot water tank - which was really done just because "it was time". You don't want one of those rusting through to let you know you were too late!

When is the last time he had a good physical with complete lab work and a handful of expanded tests? Older people sometimes take numerous medications. Has he started anything new? Last time a med review was done to check interactions and/or possible side effects? It really could be something physical ex: slight stroke, congested heart failure, imbalance of something, low/high levels of basic body needs ect. You know he loves you, no matter how goofy he's acting, hold on to the fact you know your father is NOT acting his normal self...you just are not yet sure why. You two do spend an awful lot of time together due to work besides the normal family relations. It could be you're the unfortunate one to be his release target of whatever is all going on in his life. It could be anything and/or a combination of things. He's getting older and his worried about you. You're his baby girl, no matter how old you actually are. Money is tight due to slack in business. Pressure. Stress. A relationship of his new lady where he puts demands on himself to be, do, provide in a way his present finances does not permit. Again, I'm just putting out possibles. I'm just saying, don't make any rash moves/decisions right now. Not at least until you can get a better 'picture' of exactly what and why . I'm not down playing your hurt feelings he's causing you. he's being a pain in the butt and a vocal one at that. I'm just saying perhaps you can get him to sit down and open up to you. Hi, all. Fungus gnats are nasty inside a home. They are attracted to the moisture of your breath and will bite you on the face & neck. I had to purchase a fine grade mosquito net when I lived in NY because my neighbor wouldn't get rid of a grape vine that attracted them. They flew into my home right through the window screens and infested all my plants. I used Bonide Systemic to get rid of fungus gnats (& most pests, including mites). The flying adults won't lay eggs in treated soil. I also laid out yellow sticky traps for a month to catch the adults. You have to be patient because it takes a while for all the eggs to hatch out of the soil. The cycle is egg, nymph, gnat. You can get the nymphs by placing raw potato slices on the soil (the nymphs bore in) & replace when dry until you've eradicated the problem. Sprinkled onto the soil & watered in, Bonide granules are absorbed into the soil and plant without harming it. I use it once a year on all my potted NON-EDIBLE plants for several years now. There really is no need to use it more often. I do not recommend this product for edibles.
