How Do You Know When Frost is over?
Comments (8)scoopc I have planted before Memorial Day, "tempting fate," just because I couldn't wait any longer! I always watched the weather and would bring in plants that were in portable containers, and throw pots and sheets over ones that weren't portable, if cold temps re-appeared. I agree with chelone, though, they do tend to be in "suspended animation" during that time. I usually put something out on Mother's Day, in honor of my mom, who was my gardening buddy! That's the earliest I'll plant out. Then, I keep my fingers crossed...and continue to "plant out" for the rest of the summer! Enjoy yourself! Comments (4)You ask your doctor. He can pretty much tell by the "feel" of the ovaries if they have atropied or not. Women in their fifties have babies. They may be producing fertile eggs even though they are not building up enough uterine lining to have a period. It's a complex happening. I remember one dear soul in our choir. One Sunday morning while she was getting ready to go into the church, she found out that even waaaayyyy after a year, you can have a period. Lucky for her, one of the other women had spares. Comments (23)Thank you all for your advice and pictures. I just LOVE them! After a weekend of being laid up again (fell off a machine at the gym and totally wrecked my back but am finally feeling a bit better now), I am hopingto get out there and prune this coming three day (can you say YEA!) weekend! Still on the fence about my climber as she is throwing out all sorts of laterals right now so this could be a good bloom year unlike prior years. She may have just had to have more time to come into her own. However, I am seeing that there are all sorts of little oak trees and other plants coming up through my rose bushes due to the mulch and birds. UGH! I may have lost my Sharifa Asma because of it if I can't pull them out. I have a feeling my garden is going to be very sparse this year due to a bunch of new roses going in to replace my old ones. Evelyn and Ambridge are reverting back to rootstock, so out they go. I have oak trees growing up in my Sharifa Asma as well as Evelyn, Mary Webb and now one of my Brother Cadfaels! I also have another unidentified bush growing up in my Peach Blossom. So it looks like I pretty much get to start from scratch all over again. Looks like an expensive year!...See MoreOK, I'm Almost Over Admiring My New Laundry Room...ALMOST
Comments (11)My son, daughter-in-law, and DILs father came to visit us at our cabin in the mountains on March 12th. The news at the time was meh on the virus impact. Within the weekend the seriousness became apparent. As my DILs father is high risk due to recent heart surgery, and both son and DILs offices had gone to working from home they decided it was safer to stay here rather than go back to Atlanta. They have been here since! Then my daughter’s school cancelled classes and shut down dorms so she came up. Plus all of their pets. So I have 6 adults, 10 dogs, 2 cats and 8 chickens at my house! We have been cooking and cleaning constantly. Thankfully the local towns of Blue Ridge and Ellijay put out a bulletin showing which restaurants are still open via curbside service. We have been making an effort to buy from at least one restaurant per week, sometimes 2. We are lucky in that the 3 “kids” are still working remotely for now at least. I am the only one still working outside the house, and am actually doing tons of overtime. I come home and go through the back entrance into my bedroom, get right in the shower and put my clothes in the wash. It’s been a bit of a grind doing this every day but in the scheme of things it’s doable. We will endure and continue as long as takes, but I’m hoping and hoping for more testing plus a vaccine as soon as possible! I consider us lucky in that we can all live together pretty harmoniously. Both of my kids have friends who don’t get along with their parents well enough to be able to stay with them for any length of time, which I find so odd. I will miss them terribly when they go back to their lives. I know I will look back on this time with gratitude that we got to be together and enjoy at least that. It is funny in the morning when we are all trying to get coffee and the kids all set up their laptops and put in their earbuds to start working. In the evenings when I’m home we make cocktails and snacks and do a movie night. So far our biggest issue has been laundry as we have a pretty small w/d right now. We were planning on upgrading just hadn’t gotten around to it yet....See Morecheerful1_gw
