I have been making and selling candles for ten years now. When I started, I was using parafin but within a year I switched to soy. That was about the time they had introduced soy. I use a crock pot. My husband drilled a hole near the bottom, on the side, and put a spicot on it. I melt the wax in the crock pot. I have it set on the dial where it wil heat the wax to 150 degrees. I then pour the amount of melted wax that I want (let's say 14oz) into a glass measuring cup. I then add the scent. Usually about 1oz. It also depends on how strong the scent is, so take a wiff while your stirring. That will be about how strong it will be when the candle is burning. Then I add the coloring. I've tried different ways to color and I liked the liquid color the best but now I don't use any coloring. My label for my jars are the color the candle would be. As soon as I have added the sent and color, I pour it right into the jars.(I use 8oz mason jars) I don't heat my jars first but I do have my wicks already 'glued' into the jars before I pour in the wax. I put a dab of hot glue on the wick tab and attach it to the bottom of the jar. That way it stays centered and in place while the wax is cooling. The 14oz that I mentioned above plus the scent will fill two 8oz jars just right. Once the wax cools, I cut off the wick and put on the lid. I have not had any problems with the scent of my candles. I have repeat buyers. My question to you is what kind of wick do you use. I use a hemp core wick that is already tabbed and dipped in wax to stiffen it. It sounds as if you might be using a zinc core wick. The zinc core wicks will cause alot of the same problems you're having. I tried to use up the zinc core wicks that I had left over from when I made parafin candles and they do not work in soy wax. I was trying to save myself some money but that didn't work. Gah, I was just at Anthropology yesterday and OMG...they had the most delicious candles! I'm not sure if they were soy, but absolutely wonderful, soft scents. I bought my bff one that was a line made in Charleston (can't remember the name & it's wrapped now) but the scent was "marine, moss, and maybe rose" (or something!) Sounds ridiculous, but smells AMAZING! I bought another friend a different brand and the scent was "whipped cream & pear." I seriously wanted to eat it!

First of all their is no such thing as 100% plant based polyurethane foam. At the most its 10 to 15 percent plant based (soy or palm) with rest petrol based. Flexible polyurethane foam is produced from a reaction with these key chemicals, a polyol which can be petrol based or plant based and an isocyanate, adding reacting toluene diisocyanate (TDI) with water. These are mixed together vigorously in high intensity mixers in specific amounts with other ingredients, and the foam reaction begins almost immediately. Bubbles are formed, and the mixture expands. It’s been compared to bread rising. The denser the foam, the more material used to produce it, and the more material there is in the cushion to provide weight support. Additionally higher density foam can be created to have higher resilience, referred to as HR or ultra-cell foam. For a much higher performing foam. It is important to remember, though, that foam surface firmness is independent of foam density. High density foams can be produced to be very soft. Low density foams can be made to be very firm. Therefore, there is no such thing as “hard” or “firm” density. High density foam products generally offer great deal of support, but they can be manufactured to be fairly soft foams. Thus all standard polyurethane foam is petrol based and some is partly plant based polyol, will perform the same, their is no advantage other than environmentally. The only true environmentally safe and high performance foam that will last 10 + years is Latex foam.

With the pending rain for several days, I just pulled all the "September Chill" edamame pods. This concludes my 2020 edamame season. This is more of a seed renewal and trial season. Due to wild animal pressure, all my edamame planting were in containers. This limits the planting in terms of quantify and varieties. Of the varieties I planted, Envy: I originally thought this was GardenSoy 24. So I planted them late. This turns out to be one of the earliest varieties. So my yield was small due to late planting. The pods are on the small to medium size. Taste is very good. This is a keeper. Sapporo Midori: This is a early-mid variety. It is surprising that the green pods stayed green for a long time. This extends the harvest time to a long window. The pods are medium to medium+. Taste is excellent. I think this is my standard of edamame. It is the best from my limited trials. Fledderjohn, Natsu Kurakake and GL 2216/84: Those are mid-early varieties. I have very limited plantings. I only tried some Fledderjohn and the taste is good. Since the trials were very limited, I can't provide much opinions about them. The pod size and plant size are on the average level. Gardensoy 32: This is a late variety. The plant size is large, very productive. The pod size is medium to large. The ripening window is short. So do not wait too long to pick the tender pods. The taste is good, but not as clean taste of the Sapporo Midori. It is also not that so sweet and nutty flavor like Sapporo Midori. Maybe it should be picked days earlier. September Chill: Very late variety. The pod is green and large. The plant is large and very productive. So if you can manage the climate, this is a good keeper. The edamame ripening window is also short, but seems longer than that of Gardensoy 32. But the fresh soybean pods can stay for a long time. They can still be picked to use in cooking. For me, this is a keeper. For next season, I plan to continue to grow Envy, Sapporo Midori and September Chill.. I'd like to grow some mid season varieties. I suspect most of the GardenSoy line may taste all similar and more on the Soybean side other than edamame side. Still like to trial them.
