Phyto-Estrogen....

HI, I started getting random hot flashes about mid September and now they come often and with a bang. They even affect my thinking. At first I thought I could handle them on my own but not now. The night sweats are too much for me to take anymore. Also, my head feels swimmy and disoriented most of the time. I decided to take control and do something about them. I heard that HRT is bad for you so I went to GNC and bought a natural product called Phyto-Estrogen. I've taken it for just two days now so hopefully I'll feel relief soon. My question is, if anyone has knowledge of this product, is it good and is it ok to take (one) more than the recommended two per day. It is a supplement so I wondered if taking three a day would harm me. I feel in such a hurry to get these under control. I know only time will tell. Anyway, if anyone would be kind enough to answer my questions I'd appreciate it.
Thanks much

Just because they call it a supplement, it doesn't mean that you can just take it like you want to. If they recommend 2 a day, don't push your luck by taking more. Some so-called natural supplements can do strange things to a person. Be careful. If you haven't been to a gynecologist lately, you need to see one and have a good check up before you start taking anything.

There are lots of good "estrogen" products out there - Flax seed (made into meal) is one and also is as good as the fish oil we need. Isoflavones is what you want to buy - tablets, or drink the soy milk - tofu....etc. Lois

A friend just told me you can make your own phyto-estrogen. You make a tincture with red clover that you pick, glycerin and some vodka. It is even good for your older - 8-9 year old pet dogs. It is rubbed on their gums where it is quickly absorbed into the bloodstream (and followed by a doggy treat of course). She recently treated her pet who was always tired and sleeping most of the time. Now the dog is acting like a puppy again! I can't wait for Spring to pick that clover. Doc just put me on a estrogen pill, and although doc says it is plant derived, the side effects so far are horrific, like a bad flu. So in answer to your question, I would suspect you can overdose on your estrogen. (I've just changed my dose to a 1/4 tablet a day and will see if I can work up to a higher dose). Hope this helps. Those health food store prices really get up there.
