What do hot flashes actually feel like

I just turned 52 yrs. old last week and am peri-menopausal. My last period was a few months ago. However, I have begun getting these really warm sensations (usually at night, and usually only on the back of my neck). It will last for about 45 seconds, but it's not like I am dripping with sweat or anything.

Could this just be a preclude to the infamous "hot flashes"?

Sounds like how mine started. Heat up the back of my neck, enveloping my face, then the rest of my body would get clammy. I didn't sweat heavily. I called them "moisties". They didn't last long, but the frequency increased over time until I wasn't getting much sleep. That's when I started to try various remedies, and eventually after a few years ended up on HRT for full out hot flashes.

some times I get that... some times I just sweat like the temperature suddenly jumped 30 degrees. My night sweats are just sweaty... not the heart pounding things that some people get. I don't even feel really hot.

I don't know if you know Dr. Phil on TV. He had a program on this very subject. His wife went through this and she told of her experience. Her formula's are on his web site. I am 51 and suffer from hot flashes and have had headaches at least 2 weeks out of the month ever since I can remember(Dr. said period related). Once I started taking them I noticed no headaches. I stopped taking them they came back. I started they went away. I have done this again same thing. I also don't have the sweats either. I plan on staying on them I feel so much better.

I've been buying it at my local health food store, but I'm sure I can get the same thing online for less $. I intend to do a search today (when I have a bit more time) to see who's got the best price. Oh, and this was certainly no comfort to me -- my mom, who will be 70 years old next month -- says she still has a flash from time to time. :-/

i'm being weaned off my meds, been on them for 10 years, this is the last 3 months i'll get, I'm freaking out as I was LITERALLY homicidal, trying to take 1/2 dose for 1 mo, not working, haven't slept for 1 mo. i'm irritable like crazy, can't even stand myself anymore. So i went back to taking full dose which there's maybe 2 months left. I'm searching for HELP. I have all the symptoms STRONG. Hot flashes like crazy, no sleep, exhausted when home from work, just want to be alone.

You could have a couple things that stand out to me. I'm no Dr nor am I pretending to be. But I am diabetic so they only allowed me two pregnancies for health reasons. I had rough pregnancies & diabetics have a high rate of still birth, babies birth defects, & dangers to the mother. They also have large babies so they induced both labors 2 weeks to 1 month early. After my 2nd baby in 1979, I was 21 they gave me a tubligation. I didn't have too many issues with my periods after that in the immediate future. As time went on I started having horrible cramping, nausea, irregular periods, heavy periods, bloating, fatigue, constipation, ER visits thinking my appendix was bad or I had gall stones, on & on. The pain would come, I would break in a sweat & drive to the fam Dr I had on my HMO at the time so he would believe me. This was in 1992. He would tell me it's all in my head, or it was PMS, prescribe me tranquilizers & antidepressants. I would just cry. Finally I told my husband I'm going to my GYN. I don't need a referral, & maybe it's female & not a stomach issue at all. Sure enough it was endometriosis. To be sure he did a laparoscopy. So at about 32 I had a total hysterectomy. I asked about leaving the ovaries, he told me no because he would just have to go back in later and take them out. When they went in there the endometriosis was on everything, even on my esophagus. Estrogen causes the sores to ooze and seep. Making you sick. But after I felt better. Then 18 mos later some symptoms started coming back. He went back in and from the different surgeries I had developed scar tissue or adhesions. They're like spaghetti. They were there at the hysterectomy, but they cleaned them out. This time they were partially blocking my bowels. You can die from that. He cleaned them out really good. Did some cartorizing. I'm 59 now & haven't had a problem since. It's been wonderful. At night my whole body starts sweating and I feel incredibly hot all over. During the day I feel it mostly in my face and my face sweats like crazy. What a PITA when I'm at work talking to co-workers and I'm constantly wiping the sweat off my face.

Black Cohsh is the best thing to take for hot flashes. I suffered with them for many years. My husband pushed me to talk to my doctor about getting something to help. On this web site I found that other women were taking Black Cohosh. I tried it and I saw a differance in a couple of days. If I do not take Black Cohosh for a couple of days the hot flashes come back. It is a God send. It works. I get it from a drug web site and buy one bottle and get two free. It is much cheaper than Walmart prices. I also take a product called Flash Fighters for the other problems like mood chanhges. Both togeter works for me.

I have a friend who turns red in the face and sweats profusely. I just feel warmer than usual, and my face flushes (kind of like when you're a teenager and feel embarrassed). I don't usually sweat at all, except I occasionally wake up early in the morning, throwing the covers off, and slightly sweaty. I think it really varies from one woman to the other.

I wake up at night feeling sweaty,so much that I start to get chills. Then I change into a dry nightgown to get warm again. I always fall back asleep again quickly.
