Yes, I had this happen for the first time in May. I had a period that was more than 17 or 18 days long. It was awful! Doctor said I it was lack of progesterone, did an ultrasound and all was good. Fortunately, after that I went almost 8 weeks without a period and I haven't had one that long since. I've had different lengths, variations since that time. My doctor said it was normal. I have a lot of strange symptoms.

Thank you for your response. Since then my periods have been very irregular.( not that long anymore , whew! ) Now I know when my period is coming because always 2-3 days before I am experiencing cold chills at night. Horrible feeling. I bundle up with blankets, it helps.

Thanks for the posts everyone I have been going mad with a long heavy period I am on day 16 and feel so bad I have been taking Iron because I was light headed. It is a 100km trip for me to see a Dr and I wasn't sure about going while bleeding reading the posts on this site has helped a lot, thank you.

I would blame it on the fibroid. I had fibroids three times. The first time I hadn't had a period in two months. I had a weird pain deep inside. Then I bled heavy for two weeks before I decided I should go to the doctor. Is it just blood coming out?

Fibroid or polyps maybe. I had one period that last a total of 80 days. Yes, you read that right. And the last 2 weeks of it were after the D&C that took care of the polyps and built up lining. That was last Nov/Dec. I've had one regular period since then.... expecting the next one any day.... or not.... who knows. The flow was mostly heavy but did come and go a bit. Doc put me on 2 iron tabs/day because I was so anemic. That does not help the bowl. Lots of fiber and flax to compensate. Back to 1 iron tab/day now and feel great.

I bled continually for 3 months straight before I finally went into true menopause (ie. complete cessation of periods). I ended up having to have a D&C to have a biopsy done, just to be sure nothing bad was happening (everything was fine, though). So, I think anything that isn't normal for us, should be checked out. But, having said that, in all likelihood it's probably just one of those wonky things that happen before finally going into menopause (shorter periods, longer periods, skipped periods, etc.). It can go on for quite some time, too. Unfortunately.

I am 59 and had a period for one month. One week without, two weeks on, and now back to period for three weeks with no sign of stopping. I did go to Dr. And he said was not normal at my age to still be bleeding, did a D&C and all looked good. I had told him I had a sister who went to 60 before she was menopausal so guessing I will be at least 60 since I'm still with my period. Gained a lot of weight in Last few months and stomach looks like I'm pregnant, and had vaginal dryness too but think it's all part of the change, and normal for me.

Thank god someone else still having periods !!! ... Was 55 couple weeks ago and can go 3 or 4 months without one then they kick start up again for coulple months !! Pig sick of them , everyone else finished who I know ... I aren't having any hot flushes which suppose am grateful for !!!

@dee...I'd be happy with 3 months - I'm in month SEVEN of a non-stop period! My cycles have been all over the map since I was 46, I'm 53 now. At one point a few years ago, I went 11 months without one and thought I was in the home stretch, but in month 12, bam! No fibroids, normal paps. Had an endometrial biopsy yesterday. My other perimenopause symptoms started when I was about 38 (moods, night sweats, etc.). I've gained weight that I can't lose no matter what I do. Anxiety and migraines I've always been prone to are worse now. Panic attacks, thoughts of doom and gloom. Unrelated to peri, I also just found out I have a severe vitamin D deficiency which brings in a host of other issue all on it's own. What a ride!! I'm just trying to stay positive and keep telling myself one of these days I will finally be past it! :) I hope!!

@cas962... You said no fibroids and normal paps... same for me but I had polyps and a D&C fixed it. At least for now. Doc said if it happens again, we'll talk about a partial hysterectomy. Not saying you have polyps, just that I did. You could ask about it. How are your iron levels? Mine were waaaay below the bottom line for acceptable. I was dead tired and drained and just thought I was still having flu symptoms.

I know migraines have all sorts of causes... I get them too but I get them MUCH less since I was put on the smallest dose of amlodipine for Reynaud's. The amlo. helps with circulation in the extremities but has the happy side effect of lessening the migraines as well. Just puttin' that out there anecdotally.

Glad that the D&C fixed it for you...hope it stays that way for you! Thanks for the info! Should have the results of the biopsy by end of week so we'll see where we go from there. So far, my iron is remarkably still ok. After this long I thought it would be in the toilet! LOL But, the only thing that was way down was Vitamin D and that was waaaaay down, but I doubt it's related, just coincidental.

Update: Unfortunately although I had a D&C which was normal. I continued to have bleeding. The bloating and a pain under my breast took me back to family physician. He ordered a scan and found out I had a ovarian tumor which was removed a week ago. Had a full hysterectomy as it was borderline tumor. So now I am officially in menopause and bleeding is over. Was surprised the D&C did not catch this but glad I went back to Doctor and got this taken care of. Good news is that no more cancer showed in pathology report so I should be fine now. Ladies get checked out especially if your gut tells you something is not right.

Yup, just finished 6 week period, got so annoyed and worried about my iron which is already low. Started drinking lady mantel tea and raspberry leaf, worked great! Stopped it. I am still drinking it, and it would seem with the full moon my cycle tried to come, symptoms raged, but no bleeding. I can work with this.

Wow, its been almost 2 years since I originally posted..( I am this thread creator, my name was Mtn-Grl) .My periods are still the same, one month its just 2-3 days, very light, just spotting, and then after 2 weeks I get the heavy one that lasts 14-20 days. Very unconvienient, I am soaking through very fast. So I got my insurance back, went to the doctor. He sent me to the specialist. Checked for fibroids, turns out, they're too small to operate, the doctor didn't think its necessary to remove them. He found something else. The very thick layer of my inner uterus lining. He said its abnormal and in few weeks I'll be going to the surgical center, so they can get samples of my uterus. It freaked me out. Especially after my doctor said he did not like it.

And, although this is the different doctor, he says I am not in peri stage yet. I really don't get it. I have all the symptoms. Plus even more now - my skin itches all the time. ( I moisturize it and take good care of my skin) but it itches every now and then. All over my body, my shoulders, my calves, my back etc.

And the panic attacks, they got worse, too. I am at work, talking to the customer, smiling and joking, friendly conversation and suddenly BAM, I feel tingling in my face and this weird feeling in my head like I am disconnected from the world around me. So I rub my forehead in embarrassment ( I have a feeling that people could see my fear ) drink a lot of water ( which I have with me at all times, it helps) and try to convince myself "Its just a stupid panic attack" Sometimes it goes away, sometimes it lasts longer. I am terrified of passing out and losing consciousness , it happened to me before - for no reason at all. SO I am always scared it will happen again.

Sometimes I cannot take a deep breath, my stomach hurts and I have to run to the bathroom. And everything seems to be all right, my blood sugar, my blood pressure and heart rate. I would be really happy to know that I am entering perimenopause, then I could blame everything on it but the doctors say that's not it. Well, lets see what they say after they take my uterus samples. For now I just have to live with it. Trying to think positive :)

Ive bleed 26 days.it was horrible.now i havnt had a period sense oct bam here it is .im 53.i thought i was done.
