According to my doctor, low thyroid is easily diagnosed with a simple blood test - just ask your doctor. My carple tunnel symptoms have completely disappeared since being on thyroid medication. I also take 150 mgs. of soy isoflavones twice a day for menopause symptoms and am very happy with the results. I have lots of energy, am seldom moody or depressed, experience two or three minor, short-lived hot flashes per day and absolutely no night sweats. My only complaint is that I do not sleep well - wake up after about 3 hours of sound sleep and then sleep fitfully for the rest of the night - get up about 5:00 a.m. and sometimes earlier - know there are lots of women my age in this same predicament - but I've never been a good sleeper. I just refuse to become a "victim" of menopause - I (and not my hormones) have control of my moods, my weight, my menopause symptoms, my marriage, etc.. I am woman, hear me roar! :-) Cathleen

please let you doctor know if anything with your child is out of the norm. I have a newly one year old and since birth he sweats excessivly when theres no need. the bed soaks and he goes through clotheslike a wet diaper.It also isnt all the time but its enough to be concerned. I asked everyone (doctors, other moms) i looked on the web. until he turned one i found out he has Neuroblastoma a tumor near his adrenal gland. i found out one he one year old check up because the doctors felt a lump that they thought was a swollwn kidney. (the same doctors that wasnt to concerned about his sweating) They ordered a ultrra sound and xray and they was sure it was a tumor. He then go a ct-scan and confirmed a tumor which they had to sadate him for. Please Please dont take sweating, a racy heart, unexplained non weight gain lightly. If your doctors dont think its a concern push then to satisfy for mind. get a xray a ultra sound if they wont go to a clinic, get help to pay for it. tumors are cancerous and deadly. please. Thanks a lot! I wonder if the local compounding pharmacy can make the chews here (Raleigh NC)? I will look into it. I can only guess that my vet got caught up in the wild conversation between me and some of the staff that are friends of mine so much that important info didn't get handed to me. I had my dog there for her checkup at the same time and she's the class clown. I blame the holidays also for why the pharmacy didn't include anything other than a flier stating their new (reduced) office hours. I am only guessing what the medication is. I have no piece of paper from either my vet or the pharmacy that states what I bought. The vet phoned in the prescription, the pharmacy called me and I went by and picked it up. The tech told me that I was to pump out 1mg and apply it three times a day, alternating ears. I will be calling the vet tomorrow for more info. My ancient cat has always been a handful. I have had cats my whole life and I've never seen one like her - which is why I said she is mentally ill. She just doesn't do the things a normal cat does. Her bad bathroom behavior has existed her entire life, even when she was a tiny kitten. I'm an ex-zookeeper and can tolerate a lot of poop. She doesn't seem to be seeking out fabric to urinate or poop on because of a behavior issue, its more like she will only take 10 steps away from wherever she is sitting to use the bathroom. She has chosen to claim the basement as her kingdom and there are two large litter boxes that she will use to pee in, poop is a different story. I don't mind, when I get to be her age I imagine I will be painting the walls. She is one of those cats that will put up with any sort of medical treatment first thing in the morning when she's hungry. As long as food is involved I can catch her and do whatever. It is the second and third dose of the day that are my problems. If things aren't done just right she will freak out and hide. She's very good at hiding and I am very busy so I don't have a lot of time to move everything around to find her. Any medical or clean up tasks have to be done by me, no one will help me. I just worry that this whole experience is going to be way too much trouble and with her being 21 years old, it wouldn't surprise me if her kidneys or liver will show some problems after the thyroid is corrected... If she was visibly suffering I would do whatever it takes, but she seems the same as she's always been (aloof and cranky). Any weird stuff is the same weird stuff she's done for 21 years. I would consider the iodine treatment if she was younger, but she isn't. Thanks for your help. I had read most of those posts before I ever learned my cat had the same problem. I read and re-read everyones experiences with their hyperthyroid cats and it just seems like my problem is a bit different, more of a mechanical problem - How am I going to get this cat to put up with this treatment for the rest of her life? This isn't a cat that runs up to me to be petted or fed - she's not that friendly and she'll actively avoid humans for long stretches of time; and I'm busy and work long hours. How long is she gonna live? I've never had a cat live past 15 before.

I have had thyroid disease my whole life and profuse sweating has been a way of life for me, it is extremely embarrassing. I go shopping and am dripping water off the ends of my hair and nose, if I shake my head I give everyone around me a shower like a dog in water. My face gets as red as a fire engine. People come up to me and ask me if I am ok or need help. When I went through full blown menopause it was double as bad I literally thought I would start to shoot flames some days. Not all people have the problem this bad. I have been that way and I guess I will continue that way. I take regular daily thyroid medication and my levels read normal but for me normal is not normal and it is hard to get a new doctor to realize that, once they finally do they get better at regulating my meds. One thing I can say is just be happy it has started later in life mine started when I was in high school and I am a senior gal now! I also have Sjogren's syndrome which causes me to have to carry water with me at all times because it affects the saliva and tear glands, so in one area I am squirting out water and in the other it is the desert LOL Talk to your thyroid doc about it see if they can get your meds settled in, as long as they are messing with them it will be bad, once it gets settled in sometimes it will get a little better. You just may be one of the unlucky ones unfortunately. Good luck I would not wish it on anyone. I took a low dose of hormones as I went through menopause then he weaned me off while doing that he put me on a very low dose of zoloft, half of a 25mg, that worked well and I have decided to stay on that zoloft dose it just seems to take the edge off. But I do wish I had stayed on the low dose of hormone.
