Why are My Tomato Plants Sweating??
Comments (4)Hi E., You are very observant. When plants 'sweat', it is known as transpiration. (When humans do it, it is known as 'perspiration'. lol) In plants, transpiration is a natural part of the process of photosynthesis. Most of the time, transpiration is a good thing. Transpiration is just the evaportation of moisture from the leaves of the plant. It occurs when a plant is conducting photosynthesis. The stomata of the leaves are open to allow the passage of CO2 and O2, and the water passes out of the stomato at the same time. As long as your relative humidity is lower than 100%, the air will dry the transpiration off the leaves. This is known, of course, as evaporation. Is evaporation the end of the process? Not quite. Plants, of course, need moisture, so they have to have a way to replace the moisture they lose via transpiration. So, to replace the water lost from their leaves, the roots of the plant take up more moisture from the ground. At the same time they are taking up water, they also take up minerals, which they use as nutrients. The plant uses the minerals as food, the moisture moves through the plant and is part of the process of photosynthesis and, at the right time, some of the moisture transpires out of the leaves and evaporates. It is an ongoing process. Where plants run into trouble is when there is a lack of available moisture in the soil and the roots cannot find any water to take up to serve as a replacement for the water that has transpired through the leaves. When there is no water available, the leaves wilt. A little wilting on a hot day can be normal, even with moist soil. It just means the plants are transpiring moisture out of their leaves faster than their plants can take up more moisture from the soil or that there is no moisture in the soil for uptake. However, with each plant there is a certain wilt point that it reaches from which it cannot recover and leaves or even the whole plant die. That's why we try to keep an even, steady supply of moisture in the soil for plants.....to prevent excessive wilting following transpirtation. Make sense? Comments (3)i'm being weaned off my meds, been on them for 10 years, this is the last 3 months i'll get, I'm freaking out as I was LITERALLY homicidal, trying to take 1/2 dose for 1 mo, not working, haven't slept for 1 mo. i'm irritable like crazy, can't even stand myself anymore. So i went back to taking full dose which there's maybe 2 months left. I'm searching for HELP. I have all the symptoms STRONG. Hot flashes like crazy, no sleep, exhausted when home from work, just want to be alone....See MoreNight Sweats & Effexor
Comments (5)GM, a couple of years ago I was put on Effexor to try to wean off of HRT. I'm sorry I cannot remember the specific side effects, but I ended up back on HRT. I happen to be extremely sensitive to most medications and I've tried a lot of AD's because of chronic depression(in addition to menopause). I've never been able to take any of the SSRI/SNRI's(Effexor is one). These meds in general kept me up at night, made me jittery, and some made me itch intensely. That being said, Effexor did help with my hotflashes. You might ask your doctor if you can start with the very lowest dose you can, and work up from there. Maybe start with a regular release instead of the timed release you've been given so you can split pills and start with a very low dose. And, if it doesn't eventually help with your symptoms, it's very important to wean off of these drugs gradually, not by stopping cold turkey. Another drug that has been used for hotflashes is Neurontin(Gabapentin). It is I believe an anti-seizure drug that is also used 'off label' for neuropathic pain, hotflashes, and more. I tried this one too(I have FMS along with everything else), and I couldn't even get up to a therapeutic dose(typical in my case)before I had bad side effects, although it did help with hotflashes. And, it has helped others...I'm just very sensitive. So if you are against, or are not a candidate for HRT, I would give these meds a go, being careful to start at the lowest dose. Good luck to you, and keep trying! You deserve some relief!...See MoreSweat Problems, What Color Sheets Should I Buy
Comments (9)Mamapinky0, I really appreciate your response but unfortunately our situation is tricky at best. Cold water is the only option for our washing machine, we also don't have any other options than just regular wash (we live in a foreign country and have a foreign washing machine). We don't own the washer and can't replace it. Its a terrible washer that we hate but is something we can't do anything about. We can't move either (its just way to cost prohibitive and we only have a few more years left). And the dryer, its a combo with the washer and it does an even worse job of drying than it does washing. We do seem to have soft water though and I do have access to some American detergents thankfully. I use Tide Clean & Clear as I have sensitive skin that reacts to fragrances. I also have been adding Oxyclean (the fragrance free kind). I'm pretty sure I'm just going to have to live with masking the stains....See Moreadsouiri
