What are your FSH and estradiol levels?

Hi all,

I haven't had a period in 3 years, but still feel hormone fluctuations. For several months I've had nausea and dizziness and have had a ton of tests.......including GI and ENT and now OB/GYN. I really think it is from my hormones, since all the other tests are normal. My labs came back today and they are: Estrogen 35, FSH 38. The doc says they are consistent with menopause. I realize that these levels can really vary day-to-day. I'm curious if the rest of you who are in menopause know what your most recent lab values were? Thanks.

Hi Catherinet, not just day to day but hour to hour. I havent had the salvia gathering test which is the 300 dollars one that takes all day. The kit has you using labeled vials. It is quite nasty. But I am not sure how accurate that one is either. That is why most drs. roll their eyes at checking those levels. I too have some nausea. I am tired of going to the dr. they dont know much and at least mine is too young to know what I am feeling first hand. Maybe that is the ticket, finding a female dr. that is going thru all of it. I bet she'll be on hormones! :-) take care and know that you are among friends! Shotzy now 53!

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time too. I definitely think it helps to have an OB/GYN who has been through this! Mine went through it about the same time I was and I can't imagine how she was able to keep functioning in her job. Yes, she went on HRT, and it helped her alot.
When I started through perimenopause, I got horrendous headaches all the time. It was a nightmare. I couldn't even function. My doc sent me to a "reproductive endocrinologist". She was young. And I think her love was of reproduction.......not menopause. When I told her I was having horrible headaches that I was sure were hormone related, she looked at me with this blank stare, like she had no idea what I was talking about! Needless to say, I didn't go back. How can anyone in OB/GYN not know you can get headaches from fluctuationg hormones???
But I do remember getting an estrogen level one day of 44, and then a couple days later it was 440!
Do you think you could find an OB/GYN who's been through this?

My FSH is 189 and has climbed from 150 over the past three years. I am 47 and had early onset menopause at 41 after my mother killed herself. I stopped have period at 44. Undetectable estrogen and progesterone since 42. I went through some rough years but now feel great. Don't take any hormones but my gynecologist is worried about my brain and heart health. Cholesterol is a little high and pre diabetic. I am in the health and wellness industry and am an organic vegan and I take really good care of myself so all that concerns me greatly as there aren't any lifestyle changes I can make to improve the numbers. Doctor says the blood work is telling me it is due to low estrogen that glucose climbs and cholesterol too.

I agree with oilpainter. Menopause doesn't just happen all at once. It can take years to be completely in menopause. As my OB/GYN says, even when we don't have periods, our hormones are still fluctuating and can continue to do so for sometimes 10 years. I had a period 9 months after what I thought was the last one, and then I had one a year later. I still can tell that my hormones are fluctuating, 5 years after the last period. Sounds like you are still spitting out a few eggs every once in awhile. I think the higher our FSH gets, the more it flogs our ovaries into putting something out, and you might still have a few eggs left that just needed a little prodding. :)

To Balthus, I am on FemHRT since Feb 2001 and have got along very well. I have no periods since being on FemHRT. I am 48 years old. No children as well, two benign cysts (some of those that come and go) in one breast, the other has calcifications. Basically all HRT's are trial and error. What might work for me, might not for you. My nerves are better. My sex life is better. I don't sleep well though, haven't in ages. Still have hot sweats, but not really bad. You've accomplished a lot by quitting smoking, exercising, cutting out alcohol, lowering your cholesterol. I'm sorry you are having a hard time finding employment. I feel that a lot of your symptoms are due to menopause, but a lot are due to your situation. I'll be praying for you. I found prayer helps a lot of things. It has helped to save my marriage during the difficult time when I was on OrthoPrefest which about drove me crazy with nerves and constant bleeding. The FemHRT has been good. A lot of people say don't go on hormones, but I am on the low end of normal with my bone density and a specialist in the bone density area told me to go on HRT. So good luck. This is a good site. You can read how others have gotten along on certain medications and also know that you aren't alone in all the symptoms whether they've been through hard times with finances or not.

Jan, I admit I haven't read every single post but most of them. I've read enough to see myself in some of your postings. Have you looked up the symptoms of progesterone overload/overdose? Has your dr checked your progesterone level? You probably have multiple issues going on that need addressed...WHERE TO START? I hope you can find a Dr or naturopath(sp?) that has all the answers. Bless your heart. Hormones rule! Srsly, they rule our bodies! I just have two little pieces of advice. Your anxiety level and depression aren't helping. They're exacerbating your symptoms and your ability to focus and heal and to even find someone to help. Have you considered having your dr prescribe something like Celexa to help with your anxiety and depression? Just till you can find some help and get some relief. My daughter rarely sees a traditional Dr for herself, her husband or the children. They all go to an iridoligist. I have been utterly amazed at what she has done for them and issues she has alleviated. I have to share this even tho it isn't related to your issues. DD was having gallstone, liver and kidney stone symptoms. She already knew her system took a hit with all the paint, stain and polyurethane fumes she inhaled while they were building their house (she did all the paint, stain and poly in their all wood floor 2600sq ft house). A couple of weeks ago, she started a gallbladder and liver cleanse which was to include passing of the gallstones. I kept my mouth shut and waited till she couldn't see my face before rolling my eyes (g) The protocol included apple cider vinegar and EVOO. Other products but that's what I remember. After one week of treatment the instructions were to NOT leave the house for that day as the elimination of gallstones will begin! I will spare you the pictures but she started passing gallstones by the 1/2 cup full and it lasted over half the day. They looked like crumbled, cooked hamburger meat :o She said she's never felt better! She's now working on her kidneys but I don't know if that includes passing of stones. Her iridologist told her these areas were in distress and offered plans/products to help. I'm sure not all iridologist are created equal (as all Drs aren't) but perhaps if you could find a highly reputable one, he/she could help. Good luck!

I guess I could call around and find out how old the drs. are. They have to tell me huh? I hate the vaginal stuff more than anything. It isnt like I have a wonderful love life, but I would love to think I "could" if I wanted too. The higher dosed hormones make my breast hurt. So I am still on the lowest Prempro. But I am six feet above ground, what more can a woman want! I will let you know about my hunt for the right gyn. Thanks, Shotzy

My FSH is 105 and my LH is 44.5, which I think is post-menopausal. Could have fooled me!

I wonder if we're all different, in terms of the levels meaning menopause. I haven't had a period in 3 years.....but my FSH is so much lower than your's. Are you still having periods Cheerful? Because FSH gets really high right before ovulation. My doc didn't test my LH.

I haven't had a period since March. There are times where it feels like I'm ovulating, but nothing happens. Two years ago, my FSH was around 55.

I imagine our FSH continues to fluctuate alot too. Mine seemed so low compared to yours, but maybe your's was high because you were ovulating?? Trying to figure this stuff out can drive a person crazy!

Got my bloodwork back today. My FSH is 103, my LH is 29.5, my estradiol is 22, prolactin is 22.3, and progesterone is .2

My numbers are FHS=8, LH=2.5, E2=21. I am 46 now. Is that normal? or Premenopausal? My doctor didn't tell me anything after the test. She only said you are OK.
