Vivelle and Prometrium.... Turning into a b*tch

Been on .025 Vivelle patch (2X a week) and 100 mg Prometrium (2 weeks of the month)for a month now. I am weepy, angry, moody, anxious & depressed. Are these side effects of these 2 hormones? If so, will they go away?

I am peri menopausal. Tests showed high estrogen at the beginning on my cycle and non-existent estrogen in the later part. Progesterone was low throughout. My periods have been mostly normal for the past year, but I have skipped a few. For years I have had bad cramping that lasts almost a week starting at ovulation, sometimes continuing during the first half of my period. The OTC Progesterone cream from yams is helpful for the pain since my gyn cut off my Darvocet supply.

I read Suzanne Somers "Breakthrough" and was super excited about trying these things... the combination seems to help so many women. I was hoping for an increase in energy and mood, instead I have become miserable.

Should I give up on the Vivelle and Prometrium? Does it sound like a raise in one or the other would be helpful? TIA

Since I've got no responses I'll give a quick update. I tried taking the Vivelle (estrogen) a day late and I became super depressed, weepy and tired. I tried taking extra Prometrium and that didn't help at all either. This week I experimented by adding a extra half of a Vivelle patch to the full patch and I think that has helped. I feel less tired, more upbeat, less angry.

For me I think I need more estrogen to balance out the progesterone.

.25 is a super low dose and usually used only to help with maintaining bone health. I'd ask your doc for a .5 or minimum .35. Plus the rx will last you longer and you won't have the inconvenience of having to cut your dots.

Hi hun 49 hows u ? I never did try that cream i feel like everything i try i get a kind of honeymoon period with it ive had a terrible time with the sweats lately they seem to come back with a vengence very uncomfortable being soooo hot all day and night it brings me to tears sometimes im sick of showering 3 times a day ive ended up back on the hrt but even stronger than the last lot ,my duvet is on and off all night every night ive bin in this world now for 3 yrs and its driving me crazy im on blood pressure pills hrt inhalers i think im keeping the chemist in business anyway im off to turkey in 3 weeks ill be having me 48th birthday there i always go for my birthday they dont half make a fuss of me its great they get me a cake and balloons and all its great fun the thaught of that cheers me up for once i cannot wait to hit the airport im very excited already i have had such a rough year already my son and his girlfriend are coming with us this time and he is going to propose to her aww and my daughter katie is expecting her first baby girl in august so im chuffed about that its about time shes 28 ha ha anyway take care keep your chin up and come on for a chat i love to hear from you xxxs shelly.

Just thought I'd add my two cents (or is it 20 now?) to this..I started on a 2% testosterone cream twice daily ten days ago, and will be using it once a day for the next ten days then switching to at .2% after that as prescribed by my compounding pharmacist. He has recently returned from a conference on Libido and said that for many women a "jump start" is necessary for kicking the libido into gear and finally, after four years of lagging sex drive I am beginning to feel the positive effects of the testosterone....with no negative effects...once again proving that we are indeed all different in our metabolism of all types of things, hormones being only one.......Anyway, I thought I would also share that my pharmacist also says that one of the presenters there at his conference said that in twenty years he has never known there to be a failure of increased libido with the use of DHEA cream - the downside for women looking for a solution "now" to an ongoing problem is that it can take three to six months to take effect....hence the "jump start" idea....but perhaps for those of you with problems with testosterone - ask about the DHEA cream.....the best to you all....Patti

Ladies, How are you all today? I'm feeling much better, thanks and I hope I can bring you some hope, too. Since my last post, I've had a rough time. I can honestly say I have been through as dark a valley as I've ever been in before. I have definitely used this to get closer to my Lord and there is at least that. My doctor put me on blood pressure meds because mine was 185/90, but it was both a cause and effect thing, I think. Other that that, she found nothing. No fluid in the ears, no infection, and all my blood work came back normal. Good news bad news there, right? The good news is your levels are normal. The bad news is YOUR LEVELS ARE NORMAL, SO NOW WHAT?? It's not thyroid, it's not female hormones, anemia, infection, etc. etc. She gave me antibiotics anyway at my insistence, because I was convinced I might have a closed dental infection which could help explain all of this, right? Yeah, so today, I went to the dentist for just x rays. Guess what they showed? NOTHING. Seriously?? I told him about all this stuff; he said, "Nothing's impossible, but I don't see anything at all here which would cause dizziness or the full head feeling." He gave me more antibiotics (just in case) and off I went, home to cry in despair. Did I mention that I quit a 25 year smoking habit the day I got the blood pressure meds? Yep, I felt so bad and was so convinced I was having a stroke that I just put 'em down. My husband then found stuff on the internet to suggest strongly that I was having major withdrawal from that, on top of everything else. Whee. Anyway, the second Dr.I saw at a clinic here in my little town suggested I might have had a virus, which I dismissed at first, but after I got over my crying fit after the dentist today, I started searching online more. It feels right to me. I'm not saying there's not other stuff involved, too. I do think so. But I also think that for me, at least, this is a partial answer at least. I'm feeling much better, but it has been a month and I'm still not "normal" yet. I no longer want to eat a bullet, though, and that's more than wonderful. I hope this turns the light on at the end of the tunnel for some of you guys. I sure appreciated all your posts here. It always helps when you know someone understands.

Ladies may I join you in this discussion? I am a young healthy looking 62. And today is my first visit here after looking up adrenaline I sure understand better now That's what I have going on MY NATURE'S PACE MAKER.working. Adrenaline After a stay in icu heart recently everyone finally agreed i am mot crazy.it was.my heart. The docs installed is a device catch my heart acting badly is a heart tracker like halter monitor. Under my chest muscles on top of my heart. I can cause it record what just happened.. iam write with excitment because your stories are all so familiar. These stories for me begin after mitral valve repair. 7 years ago. Basic problem ..unless the doc sees the heart behaving badly they deny the problem. All this time we never could catch it Last doc said bluntly if we dont see it didnt happen. You must to er Well recent at 230 am it woke me up, just as you have described. I went directly to the er They caught the serious thing! Arrithemia and more then two days in icu. Now meds have slowed my heart from 70 to 52 while docs decide what to do. Last night I realized I was having an adreilin rush. The same rush I went to a neurologist for help. Over a year and half. Often it also affect my skin. Goose bumps crawling feeling all day long! Well have I got news for him.I was not crazy about that either. my gp I visited last month just to say. I know you don't know what is wrong but I still got it. Knows too I sat in neros office two months ago ,,,same thing. I said dr i just want you know ME when I end up in er..and i need you. well it was er straight to icu. Home now with electrical issues. Last last night meds have my average at 52 bpm.it woke me. 2 3 am. I use my tricks to get back to sleep.as soon as felt sleep coming on the stomach feeling spread. It woke me up heart pounding.sweat .out of breath!!! Happened several times . then checked average heart rate on my Garmin. 48. Average 48 so i was probably lower. Maybe 45! My natural pace maker kicked in every time sleep lowered bpm and I was short on air. Natural pace maker? Adrenaline can't wait to see what was recorded on my device Thank you body! Hello Pastapup or anyone...! I note pp that you seem to be educated on the above bhrt and was wondering if this is what you take? I'm considering starting Vivelle Dot and Prometrium cyclically (i've been researching for awhile).. I'm 4 years post meno and early at that.. having my last period at age 44 now 48.. toughed out all the usual suspect symtoms but now 3-4 years into post meno... I've started bad v atrophy, bone loss, bladder issues, libido loss, brain fog..etc. I was just hoping to get some insigh into dosage and maybe what to expect in the first few months.. I have a gyni who is pretty good but she is not a supporter of cyclic method... (getting a period) and yet alot of what I have researched said this is the best way.. Anyway, I noticed your post was this year and thought you might still be around.. as many of the posts I have read are much older... thankyou.

I have been taking one Prometrium pill (100 mg) a day and one shot of Estrogel (normal dose is 2 shots - but my doctor told me one). I have been on it for 5 years now - menopause hit at 57. I have naturally very dry skin which is why I decided to take it - and had no health issues to prevent me from trying it. I have never had a hot flash - heck I have never been warm in my life. There is a good chance that my doctor will want to start weaning me off it come Nov. 2013 at my next physical since I will have been on it for 5 years. But I have not suffered any mood swings from it. I am as I have always been - allergic to nearly everything - but with perfect blood pressure. It is a wonder I could take HRT.

I'm newly post menopausal and have been on the Vivelle Dot .0375 for 3 months, Prometrium 200 every 3 months for ten days. I'll be taking the Prometrium for the first time this week. The Vivelle Dot has given me my life back, seriously. The only issue I've been having is that I think that it's been wearing off too quickly. I change it every 3 1/2 days, but have noticed that I have some insomnia and moodiness at 2 to 2 1/2 days (still not as bad as before the patch).

I'm not sure if I need to change it more often or increase the dose.

Peri menopause was awful and went on forever. Menopause waited until I turned 58, I thought it would never happen.
