how many years?

hello to all,

just been reading through the posts and realised just how many women on here have been suffering with all sorts of different symptoms for 5 or more years. Is it just me, or does anyone else think its criminal that we have to put up with this. Hormones make us who we are, without them we wouldn't function and this is a fact, basic biology. So, why do so many of us have to go looking for cures without the help of doctors. I know I'm not the only one on this forum who has gone back and forward to different GPs, only to be told; "its menopause, I can give you HRT", or,"its not hormonal, I can give you anti depressants", and worst of all, "I don't know whats causing that". I live in the UK and I have yet to find a menopause specialist. Does anyone know if such a person exists here? I still believe that if men suffered like this someone would have found a cure and I say this in all seriousness. I have had symptoms of different sorts for the past 9 years. They have steadily got worse in the past 21/2 years. They have impacted on my life and, at times, my relationship with my husband. The uncertainty of not knowing when, or even if, I will feel normal again makes me scared and angry and depressed. Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. Be well.

Dear hun49, Boy I hope you get an answer. Wish we lived closer there is strength in numbers. I started meditating again looking to find some peace. I usually start crying during meditation so I guess it helps a little and then I follow-up with a prayer and trust me I'm not that religious, but praying seems to be calming me a little. Still having bouts of panic and anxiety which scares me but head pressure is definitely getting better. I don't know if normal exists or if I will ever have that feeling anymore. Can someone who is thru with this hell tell us if there is light at the end of this fire. Hang in there hun49.

I guess I am lucky. I haven't had the mood swings, just power surges and racing heart. The bad news is they started 12, yes 12, years ago. I have been taking a phytoestrogen for the last 10 years and that has been a big help. The first one I tried, by Solar Ray, cut me down from a hot flash every hour to about 6 a day, and pretty much eliminated the racing heart. Now I take Estraval made by Melaleuca and I only have 1 or 2 hot flashes a day, sometimes none. The only way you can get the Estraval is if you are refered to the company by another customer. If you call the company (info is online)I am sure they can give you the name of someone in your area that can refer you. Melaleuca also has Luminex which is an all herbal mood enhancer. That might help you as well.

I have some peppers that are probably 5 or 6 years old and still doing well. I'll periodically (every few months) trim some of the older branches off, and the plant just puts out a flush of new growth. Spring pruning of some old growth helps to keep the plant size manageable, and tends to stimulate the new branches which often have the most blooms.These are greenhouse grown plants, and I don't see that they are near the end of their lives yet. If I'm energetic enough, I unpot and repot with a little new mix every couple years, but with some of the larger plants, it is now too much trouble. Renais

Ninebark 'Center Glow', how many years for arching?

Beginning with 'Diablo'...I've found most of these colorful-foliaged ninebarks to be too tall-growing for any but the largest shrub borders. Of course, the other cultivars mentioned here all represent efforts to shorten the plant up. Cool plants, just hard to fit in where space is tight. As far as the "how soon" question, we can perhaps offer very general guidelines, but in the main, that is going to vary with your local growing conditions....same as for any other plant.

Linaria's response: well taken. Gardengal, maybe you're right! Otherwise: Sensitive? Appropriate growing conditions are obviously key for herbaceous plant survival, but there's also genetics. As a generalization for herbaceous perennials, those with deep tap roots tend to live longer and those with shallow roots not live so many years. Prolific seeding goes along with the latter; that is a plant's survival strategy can be prolific seeding as the plant "wears itself out" with a large energy investment in reproduction. Of course, plants in gardens aren't plants within the context of natural ecosystems. Personally, I feel that you get what you pay for. More expensive plants are typically those that are harder for the breeders and growers to produce. ALWAYS with the caveat of appropriate growing conditions (which includes maintenance over years), I find more expensive plants generally tend to live longer, hellebores and peonies being obvious examples. More expensive plants have also typically been (artificially) selected for good garden behaviour, for instance a clump forming habit rather than rabid seeding and running.

do they shed leaves during cold seasons? or evergreen in warm tropical zones? also, when they produce those purple flowers, do they get fertilized by insects or wind? mine produced a few flowers, i thought that i was going to get some seeds, but the flowers just all died.
