I could just SCREAM!

Okay... I have some hormone related itching... I THINK it's from menopause... I itch like I've walked through poison oak... I've taken benadryl and it doesn't help so I think it must be menopausal... anyway, I've been swimming a lot, and that must interfere with my MenoCream or something... I have been having to up the dose... and while I am waiting I just itch and itch and itch!

Plus, I am SWELLING! is that hormonal? My feet at the end of the day are like potatoes... and I swim and walk... I DO get exercise...

Can't imagine. Are women cursed or what? Maybe you should check with the doc. Are you eating a lot of salt? Maybe an alergy?

If there is no rash appearing, you most likely have the cursed menopause itch..mine feels more like something is crawling on me and I continously am swatting at nothing! swelling is indeed a symptom.. your retaining alot of fluid evidently.. time to go have a chat with your physician who perhaps can supply some relief.

Considering the lack of green stuff in West Texas, have a heart, them little varmints gotta eat something---foreign and tasty preferred. The West Texas varmints that give me fits are squirrels, snails and cottontail rabbits.! Lots of times they don't eat the plants just chew off the leaves then spit them out if they don't like the taste, or, dig 'em up to see what other goodies might be buried there. I guess for those expensive Japanese MG seeds we may have to start 'em in a pot inside to let them get some growth before taking them outside.

And you'll certainly have use for the "chauffer's quarters" if you need to go anywhere. It's in the middle of nowhere. That's why it's so cheap. I bet the new owner will have to drop a half mil to update it. When I was a grad student I lived on Long Island's Gold Coast in a mansion that had fallen into shall we say, "lesser hands". Though its municipal address was the "-- Estate" it survived a tax sale only because they rented out rooms to students. (And spied on them with cameras through peepholes. But that's another story.) The third floor of the home, which I snuck into one evening, was a maze of bedrooms and baths for long-gone servants and had been abandoned since the Depression. The rest of the mansion didn't look much better. The elaborate wrought iron rails were rust held together by paint. The marble floors, dull and dingy. Maybe this one is better.

Piggybacking on what Jae said, we had a soap dispenser that never worked well and finally gave up the ghost. Turned out the "straw" part wasn't making a good seal with the pumnp part. We were able to fix it by using a straw from McDonald's, of all places. We had to find something with about the same diameter and hubby was able to jam it on (or in, I forget which) the pump part. We cut the bottom of the straw on a sharp angle so it could suck up the soap and it has worked great ever since. Might be worth a shot....(course, if your soap dispensers are see-through, you might not want to use the stripey McDonald's straw.) If not, replacement pumps from BBB would work -- or if you can't find those, you could buy 2 new cheapy soap dispensers with chrome tops and swap out the tops (might want to take one of yours with you to make sure the top fits). I have a VAH Excalibur in the stainless steel finish. I have only taken its blower wheel off once for cleaning in the time I have owned it. And that was after I had several days in a row of deep frying, steaks sizzling on a cast iron pan, hamburgers also sizzling, etc. Other than that one time, I typically only remove the shield and housing for cleaning, about every 10-14 days, put it in the dishwasher, and it comes out sparkling. Then I spray Formula409 on the wheel, and turn it on, so that the Formula409 whips all around the wheel (learned about that trick on the Appliances Forum). That works very well in most cases. But the one time I took the wheel off, as the OP is contemplating, I used the 1/8" hex wrench that I had on hand. As mentioned in posts above, it is just about the most common basic hardware item there is. The wheel was very easy to take off using the hex wrench, but a little trickier to put back on. Still only took about 10 minutes at most. It's not something I have had to do more than once. Applianceguru - while some people on this Forum have said they find the VAH hard to clean, many others have the opposite opinion, including me. I have found it a cinch, especially compared to my previous mesh filter hood, which seemed to get dirty instantly, which also instantly curtailed its efficiency. But good grief, a "fire hazard"? Where did you get that? Saying a hood is a fire hazard is very serious accusation. Please provide back-up to such a serious dramatic statement. If anything, the VAH design is safer. Its "magic lung" design keeps the liquefied grease in the sealed blower housing away from rangetop's flames. According to the VAH website: "In 70+ years of manufacturing this system, Vent-A-HoodÂ® has never received a report of an attic or wall fire when the Magic LungÂ® blower has been in use."

arum, the strange thing is that since menopausing, I have rather been intolerant of salt... things that I liked to eat before seem excessively salty...so I know that I've cut down... BUT, I live in a Japanese household, can you say shoyu (soy) sauce? :o) or can you say somen? :o) I could probably cut down further...
I see the ole doc on the 17th... but he's not much on menopause, unfortunately, and I JUST saw the Gyno doc and I didn't think to mention it to her %$#@!*&^! and I try to bring notes! I was too busy having the ole feet in the stirrups, I guess. Well, it's always reassuring to KNOW that it's menopausal... even though I've tried benadryl both internally and externally, so I was pretty sure it wasn't allergies, though I am kinda the HIVE queen! :o) That kinda works huh, hives and being the queen? :o)

Maybe you could just give the Doc a call? Sorry you're having so many agravating symptoms. Hope you find some relief soon. How about a cool bath with baking soda? :)

I've had similar itching symptoms that I've characterized as "transient hives" -- itching will start in one place, even a small rash, and be gone an hour later, migrating to another spot, and so on. It started a while ago while I knew I was beginning perimenopause...I think I'm in fulll meno now (no period for 15 months now, or even a hint of one).

Benadryl and the other itching lotions don't make a dent. BUT I've discovered that Alavert (Loratidine, aka Claritin) helps immensely.

The itchies haven't been bad lately.

That's EXACTLY how I've been having it... the migrating itchies! :o) Hmmm Claritin helps? I found if I upped my dose of progesterone cream, that helps too. I will try the Claritin, which is easy to get....

the 'creepy-crawlie' skin sensation was the first sign I had of perimenopause. Never found a fix for it, but for fluid retention, some home remedies work fairly well for me:

eat cucumbers, asparagus

drink a tea made with dried orange peel. The deeper the pigmentation, the better. I forget the name of the orange, but one is almost red. That one's quite good

tea made with juniper berries.
