Running hot and cold

I started to get chills all the time. Thought, "well, this is what I'm going to get instead of hot flashes". Boy, was I wrong! Now I get hot flashes, then chills. Is this normal? I always read about the hot flashes, but not cold ones.

yeah, it's pretty normal... not for me, but for a lot of people... I need the chills right now, it's 105Âº here! :o) Unfortunately, the hotter it is, the more hot flashes I get.

Yup, I get hot flashes, followed by cold chills and chills followed by hot flashes. Sometimes I get so icy cold that I just can't get warm. When I get the chills, I know a hot flash is not far behind. I think our thermostats are haywire...

Thankfully for me, my DH is happy to set it wherever I want it and he adjusts with adding/removing clothing. So, there is not a constant battle over this. The only battle is within myself! I used to always be cold, but now I go from cold to HOT to cold to....not liking this age thing! I am extremely grateful that DH doesn't care because my parents fought constantly about this. In fact, they still do. Dad is almost 93 and mom is almost 89! And they still argue about it. My mom was always HOT and my dad was always COLD. Each time one of them would pass the thermostat in the house, they would adjust it. After a short time, the other would get hot/cold and go adjust, and on and on...

My office Christmas party is tonight. I arranged the catering, and just had a last minute scare! She emailed me the finally finalized menu (we'd had a few last minute revisions). There is 1 vegetarian in our group, and the butternut squash lasagna was NOT listed on the menu. Thankfully, it was listed on the production sheet! WHEW! We're having the following passed Hors D-oeuvres: Seared Beef Tenderloin on Polenta Crostini w/Gorgonzola Bacon Wrapped Quail Vegetable Samosas w/spicy Marisa Dipping Sauce Crab Cakes with lemon aioli Main Course: Butternut Squash Lasagna Breast of Chicken in a Clementine Cream Sauce Beef Tenderloin w/Horseradish Sauce Green Salad with Candied Walnuts & Dried Cranberries Wild Rice Pilaf Dessert will be assorted Tartlets & Cream Puffs with Chocolate Dipped Strawberries. I think no one will go home hungry.

Around here you can figure $1000/fixture for rough-in as part of the plumbing bid. As a later add-on I would expect it to be more. Significantly less if the waste and vent lines are already done and it's only for supply lines, unless the walls are already closed up. So, as always, it depends.

Hi jiffer21225 Thanks for that information. One last question: do you have a recirculating pump on your hot water to keep the water hot all the time? I'm going to venture an educated guess about why it happens in the shower and bathroom sink: I think it could be related to the amount of flow through the system. I think there is less water flow in the shower and certainly in the bathroom sink than you have in your kitchen sink. You can test this theory by seeing if you have the problem when running the water in the bath tub instead of the shower. A tub is 4-5 gpm. A bath sink is about 1 gpm. A shower is usually 2.5 gpm (but a mix of cold and hot) and a kitchen sink is usually 2-3 gpm. I understand it should work regardless. But I think that's why there's a difference. Right now I don't know what the problem is, but I think that you should clean it or have it cleaned before you do much more troubleshooting. If it has never been cleaned, then that's a really good place to start. Here's a pretty good video Even if you don't do it yourself the video will give you a good idea of what needs to be done.

Out of curiosity, how many hot flashes do you get in a day? I average 10.

wow cheerful! you are busy! Are you on hormones? I, with my progesterone cream only get one or two, but everyone is different... 10 is a )(*&^$#@! lot!

No, I'm not on hormones. Curiously, the beginning of the hot flashes coincided with the first month of my not getting a period.

even when I was on hrt I still would get hot flashes, only not as severe..mine were more apt to happen with exertion such as going up and down stairs to that *!*#* laundry room.. and the same with hot/cold..like a faucet.. it seems with some people they will lessen the further you get into menopause, although that isn't helping you much now.

I hope mine does! My periods are FINALLY starting to become irregular... I sure would like it to happen that when my period stops, so do the hotflashes! :o) It happened for a friend of mine and I am WAITING!

This is so funny, I went off HRT and started getting sweats.During the night I would wake up suddenly, like "Renie, wake up I have a surprise for you" and WHAM a night sweat. I would get the chills, and shiver (thought I was getting the flu) then a hot flash would follow.
Get about 4 a night but numerous during the day, and for no apparent reason. In air conditioning or not, they would come, and no matter what I was doing at the time
It is true, everyone is different, but this forum is great to hear I am not the only one going through this craziness.

I am having the same problem. First it started at night and now it is during the day. Hot then cold and on and on. I thought I missed this because I have not had a period in over a year. Is that normal???
