How long after the hot flashes start?

I'm 42 and I've always had horrible, frequent, heavy, painful periods. I use natural progesterone cream to help, which has been a godsend, but for the last few months I've been getting hot flashes. Does this mean the end is in sight? How long am I likely to have the hot flashes before the periods go away?

Hi, I started having hot flashes at 50, my periods stopped about the same time....but guess what? I am 64 and still having hot flashes. When will it end?

Thanks for that Susie! There's hope that the horrid painful periods will disappear soon then. For now the hot flashes aren't too bothersome. I see each one as a step closer to not having any more periods.

If I'm still having them when I'm 64 I might have changed my mind though... ;-)
