explanation for delayed muscle pain?
Comments (3)Wow, Catherine, thanks for replying! This delayed pain has been coming and going now for a few weeks, and I mentioned it to my primary care doctor along with a few other muscle/joint/nerve symptoms. She's going to refer me to a neurologist. I do take a daily cal/mag supplement, omega-3 and multi-vitamin, and I rarely have caffeine (the occasional bit of chocolate). No new meds, either, and I'm not near menopause. I also stretch a lot -- I was a gymnast and gymnastics coach, and I'd rather do splits and backbends and pike stretches to reach stuff than squat with my poor achey knees and thighs! Anyhow, I've got a little list of related symptoms to ask the neurologist about, as soon as my doc calls me with the referral. I'll post here if I get an answer, in case anyone else experiences something similar in the future....See MoreAnyone have sciatica pain? or back pain?
Comments (29)"And if you google pilates for sciatica you can find exercises to try at home." "Another important factor is getting or keeping weight off the stomach, and strengthening the stomach muscles. A big belly with weak muscles can put a lot of stress on the spine." I have had one bout of sciatica that came on suddenly and was incredibly painful-quoted the above insights because what has worked for me is Pilates. I was taking group lessons and when the trainer went out on her own I followed her. She is very good at getting me to move and stretch past what I would do on my own without straining or overdoing it; Pilates of course is also all about strengthening one's core muscles and I've not had any more sciatic problems. Thank goodness for that, it was one of the most excruciating pains I've ever experienced. Ann...See MoreMuscle pain, funny feeling, hand and foot pain
Comments (6)Hi purplesky i too have joint pain mostly in my legs like awful restlessness growing pains and i get pins and needles in my feet and hands and my shoulders ache , i have had blood tests done but they do not show up anything different with my hormones yet but my doc says im definatly peri , i have days when i feel totally weird and i feel like ive got some horrible disease even tho i probably havent its amazing what havoc hormones wreak on us ist it, i think its much more confusing to gauge where your at with the monthly cycle thing and symptoms when youve had a full hysterectomy like i have because of the absence of periods you know what im mean , the doctor reckons its difficult to get anything from the blood in peri that indicates a positive result because bloods nearly always show up normal LH and FSH even though most of the time its actually altered , the symtoms dont seem to have any fixed pattern really and are quite changable do you find that...See MorePost Pregnancy Joint Pain & Muscle Stiffness
Comments (8)I'm sorry you're going through all this. I've had a lot of health issues since I was in my mid 20s so I know how tough it is. I'm almost 60 so I've dealt with this for over half my life. One thing I have and I think it's more common than people think is low magnesium levels. Doctors don't recognize this as they only check blood serum magnesium levels that will always be high as the body pulls magnesium from the bones to keep the blood levels up so you don't have a heart attack. Instead, they need to check the cellular magnesium level to diagnose low magnesium. There are over 300 functions magnesium is needed for in the body including relaxing muscles and removing lactic acid from them. Here are a couple of articles on the role of magnesium in health: http://web.mit.edu/london/www/magnesium.html http://drsircus.com/medicine/magnesium/magnesium-deficiency-symptoms-diagnosis I don't know if this applies to you, but a lot of pain that doctors fail to diagnose is myofascial pain where the muscles/fascia get knots in them that refer pain elsewhere. I've had severe myofascial pain since I was 15 years old, and had every sort of pain in almost every part of my body that couldn't be diagnosed. Fortunately I stumbled on a book on the subject years ago, and have been able to control my pain doing trigger point massage. Everyone has myofascial pain from time to time. Check out triggerpointbook.com. This book and my two-headed percussion massager has made my life manageable. http://www.amazon.com/HoMedics-Homedics-Thera-P-Percussion-Massager/dp/B00DCR8M1M/ref=sr_1_2?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1423676319&sr=1-2&keywords=percussion+massager...See Morepippaphillips
