The party is over I suppose
Comments (8)Love the big family reunion. What a contrast to our weekend, just the two of us. I too come from a small family which is now scattered over the globe, ditto my husband's and it is rare to get more than 5 people together at the same time. Now take it easy for the next few days and rest. I hope George's neuropathy improves over time. I don't think it ever will completely disappear but I got used to mine over the years....See MoreWhat is a Windmill supposed to look like in the winter?
Comments (27)I agree with turtile, basically. Palms rated to 0 are not rated to endure prolonged spells of this type of cold. A young Needle Palm would even have difficulty with prolonged hard freezing like that forecast for Detroit. I lost a young Needle in 1989 due to repeated hard freezes in late November and December. It never even hit 0 in New York that December! What was a zone 7a winter statistically, was actually much more difficult than a typical zone 7 winter, simply because the cold was so persistant. This February, I fear, will be quite severe for palms, and their worried caretakers. I expect temperatures to average well below seasonal averages, although the winter as a whole will probably be above average on account of the mild December and first half of January. The next two weeks will potentially be very severe, especially if widespread snow cover is present at the start of a cold snap. Palm lovers, consider yourselves warned!...See MoreSanseveria fkh 432 - Is this what it is supposed to look like?
Comments (9)If the plant is FKH432 the proper name (according to Juan) is Sansevieria francisii Chahinian. I obtained a pup from C. Causey on 6/1/04 who got it from Juan Chahinian several years ago. Mine is a smallish plant with about a dozen terete (tapering cylindrical) leaves sprouting from a common base. Each leaf tapers to a point with a max diameter (so far) of about ¼". Glasshouse ad says, "SANSEVIERIA SP. FKH #432. Remarkable "False Astroloba" column of thickly-set short terete lvs in vertical rows, throwing ungainly side stolons and tipped with purplish-budded tubular fls, tan with odd brown streaks. "Racoon Tail" from Garsen, Kenya". I'll post a photo in the gallery....See MoreWhat is a spa-like bathroom supposed to be like?
Comments (13)Spa baths are definitely clean and minimalistic, more modern than not. The only thing that seems to missing from the lists is nature. I envision Pharoah's windows overlooking a view, the sound of falling water, and an abudnance of natural materials--teak or bamboo, natural stone, and plush organic cotton. When man-made materials are used, it is nature-inspired, like glass tile that mimics the play of light on water or stone-like concrete. Definitely no plastic. It also has to smell good--maybe this is where the all-natural, handmade, minimally processed and packaged soaps, etc come in... Maybe this could be called Madison, WI modified hippie spa inspired design... I wouldn't say my bath is a spa bath, it's more retro modern something or other on a budget, but I was inspired by the whole spa experience to be even more clean and minimalistic in the design and to buy expensive towels :)...See Moreanele_gw
