agatha: Did you do an ultrasound too? My doctor said the lining of my uterus is 11mm, so I need to have a D&C or I am at risk of uterine cancer. I asked her to put me on progesterone, so she had me take 400mg Prometrium for three days, and she said I'd have a period in a week. I waited a week, and nothing. But on day 8, I got some slight pinkish discharge that last 2 days, and then nothing. I did get a migraine, which I have not had since my periods ended. I really don't understand why I didn't get a period. Did the endometrial biopsy hurt, agatha? I am so scared of having it done. My doctor does not use ANY anesthesia. When I asked her for a cervical block, she was very annoyed, and said I'd have to sign a release, and could have a large number of side effects including dizziness, ringing in my ears, etc. She finally said I could take some Advil 45 minutes before, but that I'd have to come back for it. She wanted to do it right then and there with no anesthesia whatsoever! I've heard it hurts worse than natural childbirth (I had that, so I know what that's like). I'll try to find another doctor, but may have to wait for months. My doctor is scaring me a lot. Did you have thickened lining of your uterus too? If so, what did your doctor say about that? Will it disappear on its own, or do you have to get more scans to keep an eye on it?

Hi Meldy723, I am going through something similar. I just turned 42 last week and haven't had my cycle for about 3 mos. I took an hpt. Came back neg. So I put it in the back of my mind since last year, my doc said I was in "peri" which was disappointing as I've been divorced for 8 years and was looking forward to starting my life with my husband and having another child. But I couldn't shake why I've missed 3 mos. of cycles with nothing. Could I have gone from peri to menopause within a year. So,went to the doc, who took labs and urine. Urine was neg. & labs said my estrogen levels were low and so was my thyroid, so told me to come back for more labs. This time, they did a blood test for preg which came back neck and my AMH level was low. I was prepared again to accept that I was not pregnant but then I started having other symptoms, weight gain, sore nipples, milky discharge. Ok, so I began doing research, even though it was online, research is research as I compared findings from experts and forums. What I found is that there are many women our age who have experienced this, negative testing over a period of several months and with the doctor telling them they aren't preg. Usually they haven't had a physical which would put all the wondering and doubt to rest. I didn't have a physical b/c the doc I was seeing isn't my normal doc. So I've opted to wait. The short of all of this is that you could be...we could be pregnant, even with negative tests. Nothing is 100%. There is always room for error. The only thing that will ease my mind is having a physical which I have scheduled on Aug. 6th. It is very emotionally draining, no matter what your desire is. I just believe we have to educate ourselves and allow our minds to go to a place of peace that it will all work out for the best in the end. If I am, which I feel that I am, because I can feel little twitches in my belly in places where I haven't before. Having been pregnant before, I know the feeling and I don't recall gas feeling like that. But you know, as women, there are just times when you sense something and you just can't seem to let it go...for me, that's now. What has happened with you, Meldy723, since May? What have you discovered?

Hi landygirl, Did you have a transvaginal ultrasound? I'm not familiar with any other kind. The transvaginal shows if your uterine lining is getting too thick. I would imagine that your's is. What happens in perimenopause is that usually we have an imbalance of our homrones, and our uterine lining builds up but doesn't shed properly....which leads to constant spotting. You definitely need a transvaginal ultrasound to determine your thickness. (They are very easy to have done. I'm having one on Wednesday). After they determine if its too thick or not, they may give you some progresterone to take, which will help shed it, or suggest a D&C to clean it out. Sometimes during perimenopause, the cells in our uterus get a little funky and they don't take orders from above very well, and some of them bleed all the time, and some hold on too long, etc. Once you get them scraped out, they seem to grow back in the proper way. Even if you didn't have the transvaginal ultrasound, I would think anything really bad would have shown up on any kind of ultrasound. I think this is just a matter of your hormones getting a bit off. Please try not to worry. I think that at least half the world of women in their 40's and 50's go through this same thing! (I had the same thing happen when I was about 48).

I'm 43 and had no periods for 7 months. My Dr said it could be the start of menopause. Then I started with a very light period that's lasted for over 4 months. Has anyone else experienced this? My Dr said its normal but I haven't seen anyone else with this problem while searching online.
