Fruit Tree Spraying - The First Year
Comments (30)Gloria: not to be a bummer but, your best defense going organic with CAR will be planting resistant trees from my experience. From what I've read, the sulfurs won't work very well against CAR, in addition they shouldn't be sprayed when the temps. get above 85-90F (I think) or they will burn the foliage. They can be washed off easily leading to freqent sprays which is O.K. if you have the time and the weather cooperates during the infection periods (wet weather). Between resistant trees and very diligent organic methods you might do fine, I don't know, but I heartily applaud your effort. Keep us informed. You will learn what does and doesn't work for you which is what it is all about. Oh yes, I have benefitted enormously from having a digital camera with macro capabilities. The plant pathology lab @ K-state accepts images for diagnostic purposes. Olpea: have you seen the link below? Probably applies better to your local than mine in the NC part of the state. It is for commercial growers but highly educational if one can comprehend it. I had to print the beast out and poured over it for hours referencing other materials in the process. Comments (151)Stef-After my first letter that I posted a couple days ago, I replied to my friend with the words "Is it really true?" I then got this reply! "Not only it is true but it was even worse yesterday with 102 casualties in Mexico ,a lot more than Irak and Afganistan together, world governements are keeping it very quiet, because they are all interested in petroleos mexicanos ,and other mexican bussinesses ,but it is really too big now to hide what is a real civil war ,in the last two years almost one thousand children have been killed ." This is very sad for Mexico. Unfortunately, America must bare blame. This is the sentiment of even the Academics in Mexico. Drugs have forever been an integral part of Mexican society. The Cartels have been virtually transparent with government "co-operation". Everybody is happy. Gov't makes a little cash. The Cartels have a flowing business. The general public remains safe and lives in harmony. Then Uncle Sam, to whom Mexico is DEEPLY indebted to; and to this day, is financially supporting Mexico (since the PESO collapse crisis 1995) steps in with a little Blackmail of "shut down your Cartels" or else no more Dinero from us. American Puppet Fellipe Calderon, mindlessly, takes the dare from Washington and sacrifices his own innocent people to please Washington. And how long is this going to continue to appease America? Will it be another Iraq where 1.5 million Iraqi lives were lost since the invasion. For what? For political aspirations. Mexico is much closer to home for me and really you in bordering American states. But to think that one day one of my many dear and good Mexican friends, along with the now tens of thousands already killed, could also become casualties is extremely disturbing. In the name of Mexico, I hope Felipe Calderon will stop being a Washington Puppet and honor and respect the lives of the people whom he was elected to serve. Sad....See MoreEstroven?
Comments (77)Dorishill I know it's been a while but just wanted to know how you are doing. I made a copy of all the vitamins you were taking so I can start taking them also. I have been going thru hell with all these symptoms...I don't know how much more of this I can take, I feel like I'm dying. These are the moments when I wish I was born a man..I never imagined it would be this hard. If you have any updates on anything that you think can help please let me know. My email to any of the ladies that want to talk..I'm here.. Intellectualbrat@aol.com I just started taking the Estroven Extra Strenght since the 3rd of September and I haven't had any hot flashes but still have the other symptoms. Hopefully it will kick in soon. Good luck to all....See MoreHow uncool is a closed but big kitchen these days?
Comments (59)Our kitchen is open to the rest of the house, and I agree that a good hood makes all the difference with lingering odors. Also, my oldest was three when we remodeled to open it up as much as we did. Seven years later, we have two kids and it's been nice to be able to be in the kitchen and still keep an eye on them. Another benefit is people can easily hang out in the kitchen to visit or help out, but not be in the way. Another thing that has made a huge difference is our near-silent dishwasher. Even when the space was more enclosed (it was never it's own room) the dishwasher sounded like aircraft taking off. Now you don't even realize it's running so improvements in technology have paved the way for open-ness. As far as what is popular vs. preference, go with preference unless you're moving out soon after the remodel. After living with the open kitchen, I find that it's just not a good fit for my personality despite the benefits of watching my kids and not feeling closed off etc. Everyone can see our kitchen almost as soon as they walk into the house, and I am not good at keeping the counters clear so it looks like a clutter mess. I feel embarrassed and don't like unexpected drop-ins from people. Also we have the "kitchen noise vs tv noise" issue, which probably bothers me more than the people who are using the tv (they just turn it up LOL). We do receive a lot of compliments, and people think it must be so nice to have an open kitchen like ours, so I hope it will be a selling point when we sell. Ideally I think a kitchen should be open to the family room but NOT visible from the front door. I feel like it shouldn't be on public view, yet in our house it practically is. When we move, I will not consider a home w/an open kitchen unless there is a chance we could remodel it to have more privacy. As it is, we did add a little extra wall to close it off a bit from the front door, but I wish we had added even more walls ;-)...See Moreitalianlegs
