Fosamax

Has anyone ever heard of Fosamax causing your heart to stop.

I just was told that from someone who was taking it and I have never heard that. Thanks

Like in a heart attack? There is certainly nothing in the literature. Only known adverse reactions are gastroesphogeal irritation and the few women I know who are on it (and have been for awhile) have totally tolerated it and regained bone. Maybe someone had a heart attack when they had to pay for it - I understand its expensive.

That was so funny. I know it is expensive if you do not have insurance! I think the person almost had a heart attack. I am trying to find out more info on it. I have been on it for awhile and feel just fine............I take it only once a week. My doctor said that she has not heard anything about it having an affect on the heart, bu twill get back to me if she reads anything on it.

Hi Kids, I'm also watching this issue. I was started on Actonel by my Dr in June. I'm not crazy about taking a pill that has so many conditions surrounding it...take first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, take with full 8oz of water, sit up for at least 30 minutes after taking it, yada, yada, yada... It also makes me uneasy that it has such a long half life. But on the positive side...I hope we are all fine in taking it and that we get the result we are after. Seems like a bit of a crap shoot to me... Sooey

Wish I could answer your question but have no idea. I, too, am way past menopause but on no prescription drugs of any kind. Just vitamins and progesterone cream. Know lots of people don't agree with me, but I feel that physicians prescribe way too many drugs for patients. Pharmaceutical reps really push the 'current drug of choice' and docs go along with them and take their word for everything. Think of all the drugs that have been recalled in the past few years. This is coming from a RN who has seen too many drugs prescribed for patients without really trying to find out their problems, then prescribe more for the side effects from the first ones, a never ending cycle. Hi Kids, My gastro is all done and it was a snap. The results were negative which is good and bad. No damage from the Fosomax but the Dr. want's me to now have a barium (sp?) swallow. I have an appt for that to be done this Thursday morning. But, I'm thinking that I need to talk with my Primary Care first. I have chest x-rays twice a year and am due for a chest C-scan in June. I would feel better if My PC knew of yet another radio-active event before it happens. For all of you very smart KT people...barium does have a radio-active eliment to it, right? Anyway, we were at the endoscopy center at 12:00. the process was fast and I was completely out for it. I was all finished, and was walking back out the door, heading for the car at 1:30. Not bad. I slept for most of the afternoon 2:30 - 6:00. My husband picked up chinese food for dinner so all was well. Thanks for your good thoughts. I appreciate them. sooey

My mom and another lady I know of, have had severe dental problems from the fosamax. I'd do a search on that before I took it to long. Dentist are aware of this problem, and before Mom got her dentures in February, she had to go off of it for 3 months. But her rheumatoid Dr. told her yesterday to get back on it. He said she's been off it for to long. The dentist doesn't know how bad her back is. She compressed 4 vert. from having to be on steroids for so long. That's why she's on the fosamax to begin with.
