Whatever happened with Cat?

It has been a long time since I have visited this forum and I am wondering whatever happened in Cat's saga~~ Can anyone fill me in?

It's so funny that you posted this because I have had you all on my mind here and thinking how thankful I am for your support during some of the darkest times in my life.

Well, I bought a house, it's all mine. DH & I are still together and doing well. I am still happily dis- engaged with the middle SS though he has made great strides in his life, good job for a few yr.s, bought himself a house and is proposing to his GF soon. I will say they (SS & GF) do invite us for dinner etc fairly regularly but I keep it to Grandsons BD or events. I have no wishes to change this arrangment it works for me quite well. DH visits without me as he wishes.

Things are just, well pretty darn good for the most part. Things are cozy with DH and I, and we are enjoying fixing up the house, decorating and boring stuff like that! I had a couple of health scares last year and DH was extremely supportive during my workup (negative-thank God).

My son is well and is studying his tail off for finals and then taking 15 credits next semester, poor baby. It doesn't come easy for him and he is woring so hard for it. One more year after this semester. We are driving down to visit my parents and him for Christmas and I'm so excited!

My life, our marriage and my self-worth are so much better now. I can't imagine ever going back to where I was before and at times am shocked DH & I have the decent marriage we do now. I'm not saying we never get pissed at each other, but just stupid little stuff, nothing like before.

Detaching from that whole mess and getting on with my life was the best thing for me and us it seems. Oh, and I LOVE my new (old 1920's) house! Even though it needs updating here and there it's solid and has character. I daresay I am quite content...how are you Phoggie? Everyone?

Oh Cat, you certainly sound much different than the "old Cat" and all if the continuing problems that you had before. I am so glad to hear back from you and to know that things have finally gotten better in your life and your DH sounds like he has gotten his act together also.

I am doing well. I have so many friends who have such serious medical problems in their lives, that I have taken a good hard look at my life and decided, my problems are nothing compared to their lives right now. I disconnected myself from DH's family and they are not my problems and let the chips fall where they may.

Take care....post once in awhile, so we can keep in touch.

Well, I have no professional expertise, but I doubt that dnaleri2 is correct about only marked items being safe for stovetop use. We could go back to the Oct 21, 2011 post above that all 'flat' smooth corning ware is OK. I have several versions of the square units with various markings. My first point is that all are smooth white on the bottom, but some have a very slight raised (still smooth) outer rim. However, some are completely smooth on the bottom. My most important point supporting general stovetop use is that Corning sold two clip on handles to go over one of the hand holds at the side of most units. One was for the small (~5") P-41 PETITE PAN and the other was for the common size pans. Obviously, this turned the dishes into sauce pans etc for stove use. All my dishes have essentially the same shape hand holds that can be gripped by the clip on handle. It seems unlikely that Corning would not modify the shape to prevent the handle use if newer or different non-stovetop formulations were designed. I have looked at the bottoms of all my Corning Ware. Some specifically say RANGE - OVEN - MICROWAVE, others say FOR RANGE & MICROWAVE, and others say nothing. My P-41 PETITE PANs say nothing, but they came with that handle. I have three regular blue corn flower units, all in exactly the same shape: the P-1-B says nothing, the P-1 3/4-B says For Range & Microwave and presumably the oldest 2 1/2 QT unit (no P- designation) only says PYROCERAM. My guess is that newer units don't say anything due to our more litigious society.

Do I hear that darned Cynic using my name in vain? Again? Rag bag - yep. But - there ain't much in it. I'm having trouble choosing some underwear briefs that are not holey and only minimally stained, but the zip in whose elastic has pretty well got up and went ... to trade to my son and his lady for new ones that they gifted me ... ... (last Christmas). Old things make good dusters ... and are useful for cleaning up spills. Wrapping around the broom, held in place by elastic bands, even synthetic material does a good job of clearing cobwebs. I find that the synthetic fibre things make reasonably good dishcloths, not being required to soak up a lot of water. I have a set of old coveralls, with hole in one leg (patched), and hole in other lag having had the seam ripped, ready to patch, but not yet patched ... that has a zipper whose slider(s) run up and down nicely, but the two sides won't stay together - I need a couple of cloths tied together to tie around my middle to turn the wind a bit. Have some holey socks that need mending ... but they aren't ready for the rag bag ... yet. Have some cotton socks that I need to darn (or patch) as I wear them over the squeezy socks (about $60. for 2 pairs) to keep them from wearing out quickly. Someone says that the socks wear mostly on the skin side ... but I figure that most of the wear takes place on the shoe side. Hope you're all having a great week ... my friend was entertaining on the weekend at the last fall fair of the season, so we're having Thanksgiving supper tonight. ole joyful

nicholsworth - yes, I'm pretty sure it is the same plant... I have three planted together in a triangular grouping to fill in an area.... It was a couple of years ago that I separated the other sport (Blue Maui), but I think it was the same plant. Well, at that time I potted it and it did beautifully, made it through the winter... next summer I planted it in the ground and it didn't make it through the next winter. But that may have been for any number of reasons. So - I will try again. I haven't gone out to separate this new one yet either... its been too busy around here so far... but I will eventually.

Yes, DH much better and he seems s much more happy now as well. Good for you for detaching. Life is so much better when you remove the crazy..

So sorry your friends are struggling with health issues. Mine have greatly improved however I need to be diligent about taking care of myself and getting exercise and I am commited to that-I want to stay healthy and enjoy life!
