Ladies, how long does it take you to get your period each month?

Hi everyone!

I've been on birth control for just over 4 months now and had something on my mind. I've noticed that when I start taking the "empty" pills to allow for my period, it takes a few days to start bleeding. Right now I am on my period week and will be taking my 3rd empty pill tonight and still haven't seen any spotting. This is how it has been for me each of my previous months. Since I am still new to taking the pill and having my period on a strict timing, I just wondered about it.

When you begin taking your empty pills, about how many does it take for your body to start bleeding before you begin the pills with hormones again?

Thanks for any imput!

It all depends on the pill, and the person. I'm a Sunday starter -- that means my last pill of the cycle is on a Saturday, and I usually start my period on Tuesday. It used to be that I could predict down to the hour when it would happen -- but nowadays I take pill packs continuously, i.e. 3 of them in a row, so I only have a period every 10 weeks. That makes it harder to predict nowadays.

It's normal. The delay is because your body is getting the hormone in the pill out of your system.

It takes me sometimes 3 or 4 days.

Once I didnt get a period for several months but knew i wasnt pregnant (no signs, just a feeling I wasnt). My pill's hormone level was too high for me. If you dont get a few periods and rule out pregnany, that may be it.

Sometimes when on the pill you can skip a period, or just spot a little.

You might consider asking your GYN if this is normal for the type/dosage pill you're taking. Are you still thinking there could be a chance you're pregnant because of the condom failure?
