Advice PLease : Married for the wrong reasons

I'm so misable in my marriage all we do is argue everyday and can't comprmise on anything at all. I have been married for 4yrs and have 4 kids 2 frm before the marriage and 2 frm my husb. I only married him because I was preg. Wth our first child and already had 2kids and jus felt like it was the right thing to do at the time now I'm paying for it I love him but I'm not in love wth him and never was I'm confused if I should stay because of the kids or jus stop wasting both of our time and leave ????

First, stop trying to populate earth single handedly. Kids are the ones who suffer from the marital woes of their parents and they are completely helpless to do anything about it, except suffer until they are 18 and can get out. Do you have any idea how much suffering that is?

As for YOUR problems, everybody feels like throwing in the marriage towel sometimes. Your job is to get some counseling and evaluate whether it is fixable or not. If it is fixable, you have a responsibility to do so. If not, your next step is to figure out how are you going to make an alternate life for your children and yourself, other than swinging from one man to another.

I have said this about 1,000,000,000 times, but if you don't have a job skill, go to a community college program and learn how to do something that can give you financial support.

Sheesh, I wonder whether the lady from Whirlpool came up with that lie by herself, or Whirlpool taught it to her. A few facts: 1) Government regulations, both the mandatory ones and the voluntary ones, don't specify temperature. Rather, they regulate energy (and water) consumption. 2) The only mandate (hard requirement) for US washing machines is the Federal Standard. This is a very loose standard, especially as applied to front-loaders. The current one, up until the end of this year, doesn't even include a limitation on water consumption. Well, for the rest, I'll copy something I posted a few months ago in another thread: =========================================================== [Gardenweb member name omitted], your statement "Getting HOT water on a regular cycle is a joke, just like all Energy Star machines" expresses a nearly universal misunderstanding. I'll try to set the record straight here. First, a little background. Clothes washer efficiency is expressed in terms of Modified Energy Factor (MEF) and Water Factor (WF). Higher MEF is more energy-efficient, and lower WF is more water-efficient. This page Clothes Washers Key Product Criteria defines MEF and WF, and says the Energy Star standards require MEF >= 1.8, and WF Do a "Quick Search" for model number WF419 on Find ENERGY STAR Qualified Clothes Washers to find that the Samsung WF419 has an MEF of 2.86 and a WF of 3.11. So, the WF419 is way more efficient than required by Energy Star. Why? The answer is likely found on Tax Incentives Assistance Project where you can see that the WF419 exceeds the criteria for earning a $250/unit tax credit, with no annual cap. So your washer, and many others, go way beyond the Energy Star requirements, in order to earn a very substantial tax credit. I don't know why they go beyond even the tax credit requirements. So, while everyone thinks that appliance manufacturers have had standards forced on them by the government, and therefore forgives the manufacturers for performance compromises, the fact is that the manufacturers are getting money for selling compromised machines. Not being familiar with the economics of the industry, I don't know how much of that money improves their bottom line, and how much it reduces the price you pay. I'm not opposed to conservation, and I'm not opposed to tax credit incentives. But if the facts are known only by one side of the transaction (the industry), then it isn't truly a "free-market incentive", and the consumer is at a disadvantage.

What a great influence your church has been on the pair of you. (Sarcasm very much intended.) I have to ask, if you were in an on-off relationship with your now husband, why the he[[ did you get in a position to become pregnant? Bad idea. Sorry to be harsh, but your whole approach to relationships seems to be a series of bad ideas: -Get pregnant in an unstable relationship -Marry someone you don't love merely because pregnant -Before marrying get involved with someone else -Get involved with a married man -Know you're doing wrong but not stopping Could this be any more of a train wreck? Stop. Cut off all contact with this other man, it will only end in tears for two marriages. If he's unhappy in his marriage, let _him_ deal with it, sort himself out and be free to be in another relationship honestly. Change churches if you have to to avoid being in contact with this man. Get some counselling. Sort out _your_ feelings without the confusion of your infatuation with this other man. Consider carefully and decide if you want to continue with your marriage or not. Only you can decide if security is enough (sounds ATM like it isn't) but having decided, you need to follow through one way or the other. Either fully commit to your husband or divorce, don't sit on the fence. It's not fair to anyone concerned and is a terrible example for your children.

Phoenix- When I read these words: "I do believe in love and I know that GOD's will will be carried out." I felt compelled to share some of my story, as I lived a very long time wondering about God's will. I met "Dan" 26 years ago. I fell in love, and knew we were meant to be together. We weren't dating exclusively, but were very close. He went to school out of State, and we burned up the phone lines. We kept the post office afloat. He later discovered he had a child from a previous relationship. He married his son's mother, because it was "the right thing to do", despite many protests from many people- I was not one of them. I cried, I questioned God, I prayed...but that wedding still happened. During the next 20 years,we would bump into each other,or talk when one of us was single/separated, but not the other. I never wanted to be TOW as much for my own sake as for his and his wife's.And, since he had been the victim of adultery himself, he never wanted to be TOM. About two months after my last relationship ended, I called Dan on his Birthday, left a voicemail, and left it at that. I knew he had been divorced for about 5 years, but did not know his dating status. He called me back, a day or two later, and once again, we talked for hours. We took my kids to a pizza/arcade restaurant, and talked some more. Over the next few months, I started praying even harder, asking God, "am I crazy?" Everyone warned me that I'd get my heart broken, again. I tried to break things off, over and over. It's too good to be true, blah. Irony-Dan proposed to me on his eldest son's birthday. Shortly after, we were married, in the same church he had gotten married, and I had prayed and cried. Dan is now my DH, and I love him more NOW. Neither of us would take away the blessings of our respective children,but I do wish there hadn't been so much heartache.I quit asking what might have been, and now say what will be, will be. God's delays are not God's denials!

I have a pretty big rule in my marriage. NEVER say the "D" word. Once it's on the table.... I think clarity is crucial. I've met your husband before. I used to date him when I was 19 :) I was engaged to him at one time as well (my next boyfriend at 21). Then many years later I married him, (yet a different man) and had a baby. I finally divorced him. Sooooo.... obviously it didn't work out for me. And historically I have had really bad taste in men. But here's what I learned: 1. be absolutely clear on what you are going to say. This will prevent him from being able to tangle you up in your feelings so that you sound unsure, and, well, crazy. 2. pick your moment carefully. 3. do it lovingly. do not attack. 4. admit your faults. 5. tell it straight. Honey, can I talk to you for a minute? You remember the other day when I mentioned that I was upset that Ann broke our lunch date for the second time in a row? After we spoke about it I realized that what I really needed from you was for you to listen and empathize with me. I know that you want to fix my problems, but sometimes I just need you to listen. I know I didn't make that clear, and from now on I'm going to try to let you know what I need before telling you about a problem I'm having. When he plays devil's advocate, perhaps try to "get out" of your funk and as jokingly, light as you can, say "hey, whose side are you on, anyway?". If he tells you "it's not a big deal", tell him that you understand that he may feel that way, but you do think it's a big deal, and could he please help you work it out? If he's not willing to deal with you when you are not being defensive or hysterical but are presenting him with your issues calmly and rationally, then he's just not that into you, or he really has no skills in relationship maintenance. In that case you can either drag his sorry butt to a counselor, which most likely will not work because IMO most counselors do not do good unless they are really good and the person going really wants to be there... or you can live with an emotional cripple, but at least you will know what you're dealing with, and you can take your personal issues to girlfriends rather than to him, or you can find a mate who will treat you like the queen you are, emotions and all. I tried the first couple, and eventually ended up doing the last. And since my DH really wants me to be happy, he's willing to discuss just about anything with me, and help me work it out. And since he's willing to do that, I'm willing to drop my issue a lot faster and work through it quicker because I'm not having to defend myself and my thoughts every second. And because of both of those things, I am much happier and healthier. And I don't miss being called crazy at all.

Oh my.

Were the two kids you already had from another marriage or were they outside of a marriage and "unintended"? If the latter, that would make 3 "mistakes". Who knows about #4. Look - it's pretty easy to not get pregnant these days. Stop getting pregnant!

If you leave him, you will have 4 children who are the product of divorce. Sure, it's common these days, but it does make it difficult for them and can mess them up. If you stay with him and don't work to make things better, your children will grow up in a setting that isn't good for them. I see no win for them either way.

So - if you think you are up to committing to working on your marriage and making it a good (well, maybe decent would be the best you could hope for) one, I say stay and try it. You've already made some very bad decisions - for yourself, your husband, and your children. Try to fix things.

And for goodness sake, stop having children.

Hi again, ladyc. Just thinking a bit more. Do you think your husband is in the same position as you? Is he feeling frustrated and confused and sorry for the marriage? It is a very sad situation for all 6 of you. I do hope that you can try together to come to a mutually happy place with each other. You may even rediscover some of what caused you to hook up in the first place (assuming that it was more than hormones). I hope so. In my opinion, you won't be able to do it without outside help. You will need a professional to work with you both together and probably each of you separately for awhile.

My parents had 3 children and "stayed together for the sake of the children". I know that for a fact. Although we kids knew that it wasn't a terrific marriage, they did (mostly) respect one another, didn't fight in front of us (ok, little disagreements, but not rages or even much arguing), and functioned as an intact family. It was a great lesson for us.

We had a good childhood, even though we knew that their being together was largely due to us. We sure could tell when things were rough or tense between them. It taught us committment and how to find joy in little things. It taught us respect. And our parents did have a very good life togther. Their bond grew because of experiences, mutual goals, and family life. I would venture to say at this point that, as it turned out, they ended up being happier together than they would've been apart. It certainly took work but they were both committed to it. Of course, therapy wasn't common in those days and so they had to do it on their own. We are more fortunate now in that it's readily available and there's little, if any, stigma attached to it.

In our case, it was better for us as kids and also as adults that our parents stuck it out. I hope you can, too.

I am wanting what I get, and very happy since the day I said "I DO" Of course, sometimes I wanted to kill him, but most of the time I appreciated things he did for me.

Please work it out, take care of him and the children, live for them and you will find happiness within yourself.

The grass is not greener on the other side of the hill.....That is for sure.....(according to my opinion).

Your first step is to work out better ways to communicate.

Why do you argue all the time ? Work on this problem first. Concentrate on sorting out a better way to deal with day to day problems.

It is not time to throw in the towel..without making an effort to sort out you problems.

Remember the children involved in your family see all, they are learning how to deal with life.

Why are people so quick to suggest you leave? They don't even know your situation.

Stop arguing in front of the children. Fall in love with your husband. You had sex with the man - twice - I assume he's not completely revolting to you.

It's not enough just to stay together for the kids. Love him. Let the kids see you happy - it's the best gift you'll ever give them. You owe them that.
