This nugget was said to me by my friend, a philosopher disguised as a mail carrier. We were talking about work but I think it applies well to marriage and relationships. Your opinion?

"Deserve" is the most over-used word in the language, IMHO. The various -- and numerous -- ads using it are incredibly annoying. Predictable follow-on to whole self-esteem thing they've been shoving down our throats for a couple of decades, now.

I would agree with that statement.

I guess you "deserve" it because you don't do something to change it.

I have met lots of people who complain about their situations, but they are not really prepared to do the changes necessary to make their situation better.

Here is my experience of letting wet grass clippings sit in black plastic bags in the sun in hot weather. They get Hot! and so does the bag so be careful lifting them up to dump, It was hot enough to burn once! They also get stinky and slimy and perhaps breed some anaerobic bacteria. I wouldn't worry too much about all that if you don't mind the stink and slime then it isn't such a big deal. Heating in a bag might help some to kill weed seeds but I wouldn't expect it to do anything about fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. If you are worried about chemicals the gather grass clippings at your own risk. I don't use much chemicals personally but I am still willing to collect grass clippings for my compost. If you have been composting mainly with leaves before, you might be suprised to see how hot grass clippings can make a pile get. A big glob of wet grass clippings might not make really pleasant compost so I do my best to spread it out before covering with a layer of leaves or other carbon material. Just so you know, the strong smell is a sign that the nitrogen is escaping so it is good to mix with carbon material is the pile as soon as you can or you loose a little of the benefit of the grass clippings. If the smell starts to get like the bottom of a samp or pond muck, that is a sign that things have gotten anaerobic and you want to avoid that when you can. Experiment a bit and see how it goes. Composting doesn't need to be very complex. If it is not heating up, it needs more nitrogen or moisture needs adjusting. If it is smelly, it either needs more carbon or it is too wet. Starters, inoculants, soil, tumbling, and turning are not required. Only time and a mix of materials. Good luck with it.

I think that what you have going on in terms of plugs has a lot to do with HOW you have your kitchen set up. For us, we plan on having only one thing continually plugged in on the countertop - and therefore, we put a low, horizontal plug in that area. The rest of our area is plugmold because we won't be keeping anything else permanently on the counter and plugged in. We will have an appliance "garage" that will house the coffee pot and other consistently used small appliances. My KA mixer has it's own cabinet and a plug inside the cabinet. Like everything else here, when planning your kitchen, it's important to ask yourself what you are hoping to accomplish and what way you are going to use your kitchen. If you are the type that will have various appliances out and plugged in all the time, then certainly, it doesn't make much sense to have plugmold and see the appliance colds dangling down. But, if you have an appliance garage and/or you are the type that will have small appliances out just when being used, you may be happy considering plugmold. We're also concealing the kitchen sink light switch and the UC light switch under one of our upper cabinets as well so that they won't show on the backsplash. Oh, and we will have plugmold on our island also - it will mount underneath the granite. I had considered one of the Mockett systems - they are pretty cool, but I felt that it was more intrusive than what I wanted for our small island...if there winds up being an issue with it and we wanted to get rid of it at some point down the road, we didn't want that large hole in our granite.

Snidely. Chisur is correct on having the originals. My father passed away last month I am in the middle of settling his estate. It consists of several trusts, real estate holding and bank accounts. To change the trustee name on the bank accounts they all required the original certificate of trust and death certificate. They made copies to keep. I needed that certificate of trust to get an EIN number for his estate to cancel my fatherÃ¢ÂÂs Visa card, change the name on his utilities, sell his car, cancel his dish TV and will need it to sell his properties. ItÃ¢ÂÂs the only piece of paper I have that gives me the absolute authority as successor trustee to do everything set forth in the trusts. There estate attorney gave them all the original trust documents as soon as he and my mother signed them back in 1989 and said not to keep them in a bank deposit box. Had the original been in a bank deposit box the bank would not have let me in the box because his box was tied to his trust accounts and at that point I could not prove I was entitled to act as successor trustee. Sure I had copies but they wanted original even at banks that have know me for years. My father was 93 IÃ¢ÂÂve carried copies of his Powers of Attorney in the bottom of my purse for years along with a DNR he filled out a couple of years ago I never needed them. What was the most helpful were the HIPPA papers that gave me authorization to act on his behalf with anything to do with medical issues. I had those on file with every doctor, hospital, Medicare and insurance policy he ever used. My father even signed some paper at Social Security that gave permission for me to talk on his behalf and believe me it made it a lot easier when I talked to them after his death.

Leslie, if the tree is close enough to spit out seeds/helicopters in your yard or on the road or public property, take a few and start your new tree. Put the tip of the seed into the ground and protect from critters, and even start some in a pot to increase success. My neighbor has several Silver maples, and the seed/helicopters fly very far from the tree onto my land pretty far out. I personally have gone onto "someone?" elses property along the road to collect acorns before. They had so many acres they never saw me. I don't advise it. But, I grabbed about 10 acorns. I had dug up trees from the woods before, never thinking, this is someone elses property. It was right by the road. It was stupid of me. But they were among larger trees and would've stayed small for years. That was before I got a computer and knew you could order trees. Leslie, I would ask for some seeds and get it over with, unless they were getting blown all over your yard anyway. Good Luck.

I think we see that here all the time, and I have to be honest and include myself in that category. It's like the old joke where the wanna-be actor is complaining how hard life is on the stage and somebody says why not choose a different profession, and he says "WHAT! And leave show business??!"

i have to agree in a way, sometimes i read things here all the time that sound just crazy, people stay in marriages that sound like a nightmare to me, but then I think well i put with some stuff that i shouldn't.

when it comes to work situation i disagree though, it doesn't apply here. i would put up with a lot of stuff because i have to pay my bills, and there are no other jobs in the area. i love my job but have to put up with a lot as probably everyone else.

with a relationship/marriage one does not need to be married, people can survive single. cannot live without job though.

I'll go with that revision. "Deserve" can be kind of a hot-button word.

And yet... aren't we told how you have to compromise and be patient in marriage? How you are supposed to give 110% and always put the best interests of the beloved before your own? "Love is patient, love is kind, etc. etc." from Corinthians is used very often in the marriage ceremony. I know it was in mine. So is that a recipe for disappointment?

If only one of you always gives and the other always takes,
then yes, it's a recipe for more than just disappointment.

As soon as I read your post, I had an image pop into my head. One of an abused woman, with no resources, who has no way of getting out of a bad marriage. Does she DESERVE to be used as a punching bag, simply because she has no place else to go? I don't think so.

Then there is the job situation someone referenced. In this economy, employers know that options are few and far between. Do the hardworking people trying to support their families DESERVE to take pay cuts or wage freezes? Certainly not all of them deserve that, but they have no other choices these days.

Does anyone deserve to have health issues? because they don't have the funds for treatment?

No, can't agree with that statement. The revision is certainly a little more realistic, but so often personal choice doesn't enter into the circumstances in which we find ourselves. The word deserve, though, is giving me real problems

exactly, I so agree. we have to take wage freeze and then pay cut, does it mean all of us deserve it? seriously now? every one of us deserves pay cut? and if we don't want to put up with it, what are the options? quit? really? and go where? I think only people who do not have to support themselves would have such naive thoughts.
