Fight every time I have work/interview

What is the psychology behind this? We have both been out of work, living on savings, and I got an interview and he picked a fight. I had a temp job and he picked a fight. It's not envy, it wasn't a great job, only p/t and low pay, and he recently found the same after over two years of searching. I thought at least we would each bring in a little money and still have time to look for something better. But I got up today and it was all downhill from the second I got my feet on the floor. Why?
PS: I have always worked, we both have, until recently.

It only becomes a fight when two people are involved. If you do not rise to the bait, he's got no one to fight with.

Turtlelady, I understand what you're asking. You're not asking what the first response "answered".

I'm not a counselor, psychiatrist, or psychologist, so am not qualified to answer. But, my hip-pocket psychology says that he is feeling as though you are doing better than him, he's feeling "unmanly" (whatever that means), but certainly is feeling insecure and lashing out at you.

You just keep doing what you're doing, and somehow try to assure him that you two are in it together and no success that either of you has in any way diminishes the other person. You're a team.

4 siblings have their own mini society within the larger family. It looks like they're adolescents too, so they are having their own internal changes to cope with as well as anything imposed. They will all have their own 'space' needs. They will all have their own 'autonomy' needs and needs to be and to be seen by the others as 'indidivuals.' And, there is a larger family structure they all have to fit into so things can flow well for everyone. Breaks from school can mean more time having to be in closer proximity and without the 'relief' of a regular school routine. If they don't have already, encourage them to develop their own hobby interests and skill-profiles. That way they can all clearly have an area of expertise. Make sure you give them individual sincere personalized compliments when they do _anything_ you can notice that is worth one. That is, begin giving them effective positive messages so they can feel what it feels like to earn/get positive notice. That can help reinforce things like them wanting to get more of that. It's more personal than a chart although using both can be a good idea. If you want to drive change, a change for 4 developing adolescents, a family dynamic and all when things have sort of already gotten to a head for you; plan to be patient and determined. This sort of thing can be done. Left alone, a natural dynamic will sort of evolve to become stable over time. That may or may not be a dynamic that is later wanted. It sounds like your situation is at that point, and you want to institute change. When there is an overall 'system' and all the people have fit together in a particular way, change is difficult and will feel unnatural at first for everyone. If you have great difficulty with the process or follow-through, or if you just want some interim support and confidential advice consult a family counselor (finding one you can work with well may require trying or interviewing more than one). It eventually takes years to develop a new solid stable pattern. People shouldn't just change overnight, so try to notice little positive changes so you can try to reinforce them. If you need support along the way, or want more adult insight on your side consider seeing a family therapist. You can try to troubleshoot 'human needs' so that everyone can have those met. P.S. Intrasibling stuff can be problematic. The different siblings have different developmental needs, and can have very different temperaments. They all benefit from interaction, but all have needs for their own 'space' and self-reflection too. The oldest is significantly older than the youngest, so things that are 'developmentaly' fair and reasonable may not be at all perceived as fair or reasonable by all the siblings. They all probably enjoy the company of their age-peers. Their siblings, at times probably feel more or less 'developed.' When they feel chafed, they probably can easily fall into mild insults and poking at each other verbally, or physically. P.P.S. If you want to drive the change, you will have to change the way you act/react. Try to define your goals. Refine that, so it can be clear and understandable and workable for everyone in the group. Think about how you can foster that change. How can your behavior help your sons change more effectively so your family can experience a new dynamic? When you have clarity on this that will help a lot.

Great ideas I've picked up on GW: - The easiest was to put on a bottom, fitted sheet is to start at an upper corner, next pull on the opposite side's bottom corner, followed by the other upper corner and then the opposite side's bottom corner. I always make the last bottom corner the one that's the most accessible for me. - To keep sheet sets neatly folded and together while storing them in your linen closet, fold them so that they lay neatly inside one of the pillowcases folded in half. If you live in the south and want bermuda or St Augustine, we can help you get to a nice lawn in a few months. If you live in the north and want something like rye, fescue, and/or Kentucky bluegrass, I would suggest you hang onto that thought until after summer as suggested by someone in your past. In the mean time practice proper watering, mowing, and fertilizing and you will have the best looking weeds on the block. That's what I'm currently doing at my new home. Because I'm satisfied with the look of green, even though it is green weeds, this is a very low stress approach. Here's a picture of my weeds from last July. Proper watering means deep an infrequent. Deep means 1 inch all at one time; not spread out over several days. Infrequent means to adjust frequency for the temperature. When it's hotter you deep water more often. With temps in the 90s water once per week. With temps in the 80s water once every 2 weeks. With temps in the 70s water once every 3 weeks. With temps below 70 water once a month. This works in Phoenix and in Vermont, so wherever you are it will work. Mulch mow most grasses at the highest notch on the mower. The only grasses that get mowed at the lowest level are bermuda, centipede, and creeping bentgrass. Fertilize once in the late spring and twice in the fall. Late spring is Memorial Day. Early fall is Labor Day and late fall is around Thanksgiving. That's about all there is to it.

Candice, I have used Neem OIl (Neem, water, drops of Blue Dawn dish soap. Castille soap good if you can get it) with no ill effects to the leaves. If you spray w the mix, make sure and rinse it off though before sunlight hits the leaves. I rinse mine after a few hours. These are contact sprays and pests need to be coated for it to work. If they have damaged leaves already, the leaves damaged will turn off color and this is not necessarily from the Neem Oil. Not had to deal w Mealy bugs and I hope not to. Cannot comment. With Spider Mites. I have used Predatory Mites and they worked very well for me. I used the P. persimilis and N. fallasis. The N. fallasis is best, as it will live in the soil, eats other than mites and lives in the soil to assist possibly in the next growing season. Rick

Agreed. It's cliche to say, but he's just jealous and insecure.

I dunno; keep doing what you're doing, but don't bring up work in converstaion.

OP, please have a plain, rational, face-to-face discussion across the kitchen table or wherever you can be pretty sure of a non-threatening, non-emotionally-laden environment.

The other posters are right;
this is insecurity/jealousy/feelings of inadequacy, but finding a label to stick on it isn't going to help, & refusing to 'rise to the bait' sure as heck isn't going to help.
In fact it's more likely to frustrate & anger the other party.

You & hubs are a team, & somehow it's gotten turned around so that hubs sees you, not as his teammate, but as his competition.

Most people are rational if they have the information;
give him a chance & see what happens.

I also see competition, he wants to be the bread winner. If it does not happen, he needs to be grateful that there is some money coming in. Me and hubby are older, and it is who ever can bring in the money is appreciated. No arguments.

but, since you asked, I was sarcastic because the previous poster commented without helping, which had been done numerous times already, & she mentioned the fact that she didn't have the same problem that OP had.

If you'll read my previous post, you'll see that I did offer a positive suggestion to OP.

It is very hard on a man who has no job. It is hard for women too, it's awful, but a man feels a enormous need to provide for his wife and family and he will suffer greatly when he cannot.

I hope things have improved for you two.
