Need Silver Anniversary Gift Idea for DH

I need you all to help elicit some creative ideas for me!

Yes, it will be 25 years on May 15th (so not a lot of time left to shop!)

We have no children, good jobs, $$$ in the bank. Our hobby is scuba diving, but we can't take a vacation for a few months yet, so a "dive trip" present is out of the question.

I need something to give him on "The Day".

He already has every techno gadget known to modern man, and I would not know what more to get for him. I'm talking computers, cameras, telescope, treadmill, dive gear, etc.

He can't stand jewelry, just wears his plain wedding band, and I doubt he'd like a new one because the original is just fine, plus it is THE one. He'd never wear a neck chain, men's ring or bracelet, and has several watches, but prefers his plastic Casio anyway.

I could get him a bottle of a high quality single malt scotch, I suppose, and I know he likes Glenlivet, but every body buys him a bottle at Christmas anyway.

He has every book imaginable, and Amazon and Borders know him well. So many yet to read. He buys DVD's all the time, and we have a media room packed to the rafters.

He buys us concert tickets all the time, in fact, just took me to one for my birthday last week, so that too is not a creative idea.

I am not crafty, and work full time, so I can't sneak around and make something.

We are beyond the "want to take flying lessons" time of life. I could buy a boat, but even then, I'd need his input.

WHAT DO I GET THIS GUY that he can open on our silver anniversary???

I would spend up to about $500.00

Congratulations!

I was gonna say "the moon is silver", because it sounds like that's what you might have to aim for in order to get him something he doesn't already have, but..

how about a second honey*moon*?

Even if you can't take vacation time for a few months, you might take him away for a long week-end at a romantic bed & breakfast by the silver sea, (or you could go ahead & make the arrangements in advance for your "real" vacation.)

We celebrated our 50th last May and I got my husband a Seiko mantle clock. It plays six different songs and they are all so pretty. They had several clocks to chose from and each clock had different songs. We have had so many compliments on the clock and the beautiful music. My husband was so pleased and that is saying a lot as he usually doesn't pay much attention to such things. I had a plate engraved and put on the front of it. Felt like it was a real hit. The cost was around $300. Bought it at a jewelry store, but you might google and find one on line. By the way, it doesn't have to be a mantle clock, but that is where we put it.

LOL, Melati--I WISH!!! We'll probably have to make that direction a whole *nuther plan*--maybe next-year's anniversary! Dave--thank you so much, too!! I'm definitely going to have to have 'a plan'!! Now, tell me this *you guys* with the extensive collections you already have--what in the world do I bring you, that you DO NOT ALREADY HAVE??? I'm getting nervous!!! My 'picken's are such 'small potatoes' compared with anyone you've suggested visiting, including yourselves!! LOL btw--do NOT fear--I would NEVER ask you for a piece of your hosta! I only tease on the forum, with such boldness, (and with those I've already 'traded' with) but in 'real life' I'd be horrified to do that!! Just not the way I wuz brought up--southern roots, ya know--well, maybe you don't but trust me--they're still in 'there'!!! :o) And, if I go over a certain one you have--I AM NOT hinting for you to bring out the shovel, okay? I'm just enthusiastic about ANYTHING I see that I think is awesome, admirable, or beautiful, and for the life-of-me, I cannot refrain from letting my appreciation be known!!! :o/ So--DO NOT--DO NOT let my enthusiasm make you squirm nor compelled to dig up a perfectly beautiful clump, destroying it's symmetry for the rest of the season, JUST to give me a piece of it, cause I'm excited by it's maturity and beauty!!! Seriously--I will, undoubtedly, LOVE them ALL!!! And, I can wait to get whatever it is I may be 'blown away' about, someday--but--I may be taking copious notes, if you don't mind!! ;o)

I came to this site looking for ideas for my parents who are trying to come up with a good 50th anniversary gift for my grandparents as well. I appreciate the ideas that have been posted thus far. I do have a suggestion for the group - My mom made a cross-stitch blanket that is hanging above my grandparents' bed for one of their anniversaries. It's basically a family tree and includes a square for each person - My mom stiched i.e. "John" (son) and his birthdate and then "Jane" (wife) and her birthdate, and in between the two - their wedding anniversary date. And then below John and Jane are the three kids and their birthdates. In each person's square she stitched a little item that represents that person - like my square has a piano because I play piano... my cousin's has a baseball, etc. It was VERY well received and it's perfect because we know how when you get old you are very good at forgetting dates! I thought this was the best gift idea ever and it was very well received. And every time a new family member is added, my Mom just updates the blanket.... The problem is now, we have their 50th anniversary coming up and this past anniversary gift is going to be very hard to top.

@Rho Dodendron we would buy her a ticket to fly out for their anniversary but I would still be missing. I can't take any vacation time a week before Christmas. I work retail. It's blackout month for vacation. When my parents had their 60th Anniversary, they celebrated it during the summer before. They hosted a huge party at their home. My children and I attended. Some of my sisters kids came (she has a LOT of kids) as did she. All my sisters were there, actually. They wanted to do the same this past summer for their 70th, but my nephew got married the same weekend and nobody could afford two trips to the west coast, so the wedding for my nephew took precedence. I do like some of the ideas above and will pass them on to my sisters. Thank you all for your ideas!

What about a work of art ? A sculpture, or some indigenous art, is always lovely. Painting, maybe.

Its my 25th, next year and my DH says we are going to Paris !

As the time draws near, it might be somewhere closer to home !

I live in Sydney and we have a harbour bridge climb, which is something that is stunning, (a bit scarey for me, though), but it costs about $300, I believe, and it would be a memorable event. Perhaps you have got something like that near you. Bungy jumping, hot air balooning, helicopter ride.

Let us know what you end up purchasing.
