Would you consider this love?

HEllo

I had an argument with my girlfriend last night. We have worked our way through a lot of things and are hoping to get married once we have our problems sorted out. Last night we were talking about loyalty to each other and she said that she feels that it is ok to think of other people while we are having sex. This notion makes me physically sick because i cannot consider that love or loyalty if my wife is thinking of other men while im having sex with her. The same will be true for me. I would not consider it love or loyalty to/for my wife if im thinking of some women from my office while having sex with her. We had a huge argument over this. Those of you who are married , have you ever done that to your spouse? and do you consider this love/loyalty?

I think that it's something that people (married or not) may do from time to time, but who actually says that they do it? What would that accomplish? All I can see that statement doing is hurting you. Does she now think that you two can have sex without you wondering who she is thinking about it? Wondering who's face she's picturing on yours? Can you elaborate a bit more on the situation that brought this statement up? I can't just think that anyone would be like "Hey, while we're having sex, I'm going to be thinking of other men. Hope you don't mind honey!" What brought this up? What did she think her statement would accomplish?

I think that a *bit* of fantasising is perfectly healthy and normal, and it isn't a gauge to how much a person loves their partner. I also think that this is a private matter and saying something like "Thanks baby that was great, I pretended you were Brad Pitt.." would be unfair and unkind. However, if you were having a conversation and this topic came up, you should be happy that your girlfriend was willing to truthfully answer you.

In my opinion, the only time this becomes a matter of love/loyalty is if the fantasising is frequent *and* about an ex or co-worker, male friend, etc. because that could be a sign of an underlying issue of truly wanting to be with someone else.

In a healthy relationship your girlfriend should be with you most of the time when she's "with you", but realize that a little bit of fantasy every now and then, is just something that adds a bit of spice. Often when a person fantasises there may not even be a specific "face" they're picturing. Some women like a man in uniform, some like cowboys or "badboys", etc.. Considering finding out what your girlfrinds fantasy "type" is and, if you're up for it, do a little role playing.

Remember that usually a fantasy "type" is just that, fantasy. If she truely wanted to be with a cowboy/badboy/moviestar/or whatever, she wouldn't be in a relationship with you, she would be out there finding one. She's in a relationship with *you* because she loves *you* and want's to be with *you*.

If you still find the thought truely offensive, but your relationship is otherwise healthy and loving, then you may just want to incorperate a policy of "Don't ask, Don't tell" on that issue. Let your girlfriend know that it bothers you and ask her to not bring up the topic again (and don't do it yourself either). Then forget about it and just enjoy the fact that you're (hopefully) getting regular satisfying sex with a woman who *does* love you.

The comment that the Privets are pretty has highlighted the issue of aesthetics versus the environment. I'll admit that, like so many others, I too have some non-native plants that I somehow just can't seem to cut down (but that list is shrinking). However, there are still a lot of great native choices that I think will satisfy both one's eye for beauty and the environment. I happen to agree that Privets are pretty. That is part of the problem since it is their prettiness that got people to start planting them. Heck, the flowers on Kudzu are also pretty. The problem is that privets and other invaders don't just stop at a few pretty plants here and there but take over to the exclusion of everything else. In the short time that I was distracted by other disasters and thinking one or two privets are no big deal, privets made parts of the grounds I am tending impassable and started crowding out and shading out the natives. Burning Bush, which is also beautiful and a common landscape plant, has gotten so far out of control where I garden that it has made a nearly impassable monculture out of some areas and has suppressed tree growth and other desireable features although I am now starting to reclaim some of that lost ground and saving what the Burning Bush did not kill off het. Almost nothing else comes up where the english ivy invaded but where I removed it in one area a beautiful butterly garden was planted by some great ladies and in another area some beautiful native woodland flowers volunteered. I probably caught the privets in time. It will be years before I have the Burning Bush shrubs under control and the beautiful (and native) Trout Lillies regain their lost ground. I have not checked for a while, (maybe a year), but since about 2005 or so, Jenn-air was the highest rated fridge for reliability by folks that responded to Consumer Reports Surveys. Well Ahead of SZ and some of the rest. We've had our JA for going on 7 years now, the icemaker did die after about 5 years, but $135 and 10 minutes of my time, I replaced it and the new one makes plenty of ice, no clumping, funny shapes, etc etc that you see about some of the other icemakers. It hasn't even burned out a light bulb yet! We love the features too, shelves that crank up and down with a handle, both in the fridge and freezer, great lighting, even the ice maker is well lit, We can set 3 different temps in the fridge compartment, one for meats, one for veggies/fruits and the main fridge temp, all digital controls and readouts. They also have the modern variable speed compressor, that is quiet and efficient, unlike the High price brand that still uses "the same compressor that was in your "Grandmother, or even Great Grandmother's Fridge" My only "Beef", (And it is a BIG ONE) is now they are hiding the prices like that "Fancy Brand" used to do, They should take a lesson from that brand and put their prices up ,at least on their website, but to Me, they should be posted by any store that sells them, sooooooo until they do so, I still recommend looking elsewhere, as to me that is "Sleezebag Marketing" and as much as I like mine, had they been practicing such marketing strategies back when I bought mine, I would have looked Elsewhere! Lots of potential red flags.... doesn't need a "facelift" but rather a new roof, leak damage repair, maybe plumbing repair, and mold remediation. Obviously needs a boatload of floor refinishing, new flooring, or carpeting & an extensive paint/wallpaper/paneling job. I suspect the windows aren't opening and closing easily - wood framed houses always sag and the window openings get out of square. Strange with all the pictures they don't show you any of the most important parts of the house. There is a kitchen in here somewhere, right (how often are there no photos of the kitchen in a home advert? What are they hiding?) Only one of the five bathrooms is shown. If there's any basement or attic, it's not shown. Don't know what the side or back yards look like. No garage or carport evidenty. Check zoning and living restrictions if you're not familiar with this locale. That tree dominates the front view - I'd probably chop it, and I don't like chopping trees. Don't know anything of the structual integrity. Can't see anything obviously wrong with the electricals - have a real electrician inspect this and see if it really needs an update (or a 2nd panel); likewise have a real plumber look at the aquaducts. Also inspect HVAC in a house of this age, and with old houses, check for asbestos, lead paint, and the usual old-house hazards. Rooms are sure nice and big. Layout looks uninspired though, but I'm lost without a floorplan. The big porch is nice. It's been on the market for 3 months w/o sale = overpriced. Proceed with caution.

NHB, I love decorating books. I don't really use them for coffee table books - although I do have a few out in the sunroom. I love several of the magazines you listed, and for that same reason, I love decorating books. They are something I may look at time and time again for ideas, inspiration or just to enjoy the pretty pics! I would have never described you as a minimalist. To the OP, I love Kitty Bartholomew's book. There are also several cottage decor books that I love and several window treatment design books that generally show whole rooms. I also have Bunny William's book, although I will go against the grain and say that I do not like it as well as all the hype it generated. It was a bit of a let down when I got it. Still a beautiful book. Martha Stewart has a book on her new old house, or something to that effect, I greatly enjoyed it. I will have to look at some of my titles and get back to you. Charles Fraudee is a good one as several mentioned. tina

ricgad...it seems that if she needs to do this to get turned on so early in your relationship...well...doesn't sound great for the future...like 10-15 years from now. This should be a time when she is so into you, that it occupies much of her thinking, at the early stages in love. Where the whole world seems better, just because you are in it! Just my opinion for whatever it is worth. Seems that you should calmly open up some areas of discussion about all of this without getting angry, so that she will feel free to tell you the "truth" about what she believes. There are people who think it is OK to sleep with other people. Is she perhaps someone who thinks that way? Can she imagine herself faithful to you for the rest of her life? I think you two need to really talk about all of this...and don't blow up at her because then she will just tell you what you want to hear to avoid the arguments and fighting. And I think you need know "the truth" so you know if this is someone that has the same beliefs as you do, instead of finding out years later...once you have kids, etc. Have the courage to find out her beliefs now. Perhaps you could ask her...what would she do if 5-10 years from now, and the newness and excitement has worn off...and if she didn't feel attracted to you...would she feel it was OK to sleep with someone else? How does she feel about all of this? How do you feel?

I'm still laughing at jenfur's post, that was funny. I think that was a stupid thing for her to say and if she can say something to you like that without caring about your feelings you should proceed with caution marrying her. It's a proven fact that what one thinks on sometimes they will act on, so if she's thinking about having sex with her ex while sexing you chances are you might walk in on her having sex with her ex one day. Just a word to the wise. I can't begin to imagine telling my husband i love you and i'm loyal to you but when we have sex i don't think about having sex with you i think about having sex with another man. I think that would absolutely crush his ego and he would be so self concious about sex with me probably till the day one of us died. That was very cruel of her to say and I think you should really reconsider if you want to marry a person that would say that to you.
