"bathrooms stink" in 2007 deer valley dw manufactured home

We purchased a 2007 Deer Valley double wide used 2 years ago. I must say, it's built very well, but one thing I can't seem to figure out. It's a strange odor in the bathrooms. Not sure if it's sewer gas because it's hooked to a new septic tank and not sure what that sewer gas smells like. We've always had city sewer. When I come in the home, especially when it's been closed up for a few days, it will irritate my eyes. My husband notices nothing! Called in a plumber and he said all plumbing under home looks good. I heard there's a vent that vents out the sewer gases. Maybe I need to contact Deer Valley and see if they can email me instructions on where to locate this pipe/pipes. It's musky and very strange. Like nothing I've ever smelled before. I keep the bathroom doors shut in case it's sewer gas. There's got to be an inexpensive way to test for it without purchasing expensive equipment. Not sure this would help, but maybe access the attic (which we don't have yet installed) and have my husband or plumber crawl up there and see if the pipes are disconnected somewhere. Any suggestions from manufactured home owners? Thanks Gayle

Go outside and look at the roof over the bathroom. There should be a white pipe sticking up through the roof. That's the vent pipe.

There are places the smell could be coming from, so you have to do some looking. Take a large jug of water and pour some of it into every drain in the house. There's a U or P shaped trap for the water to collect so the sewer gas doesn't come through the sink.
But don't forget the washing machine! Sometimes the drain for the washer can evaporate and the gas comes in from there.

Christopherh, thanks for the reply. Last year someone suggest I pour the water in all the drains, it didn't work. Everyday I'd add some and it still didn't work. Smell still there. If I find there is definitely a pipe on the roof, does it have joints where they can come loose in the walls?

Usually if there's a broken or not sealed joint, you would notice water in the area of the leak. What leak? Rain. The vent pipe is usually 4 inches and rain does come in.

Have you checked the area for the washing machine? The drain should also have a trap, but in some cases the water can evaporate and the sewer gas comes in from there.
