Foam Roofing Questions

Posted by maz436 (My Page) on

I have an older mobile home and several years ago had a small roof leak near an electrical box on the roof. I'm pretty sure I've got the leak fixed but want to be sure before I start replacing the ceiling inside. Anybody had any experience with those expandible foam roofs. How about those rubberized membranes that you glue down? Any help would be appricated!!!

RE: Foam Roofing Questions

The urethane foam roofing with which I am familiar requires a topcoat just as soon as the foam is firm enough to permit walking on it. Topcoats are acrylic or silicone. The topcoat protects the urethane foam from ultraviolet damage, which occurs rapidly and severely. Acrylic lasts 10 to 15 years and can/must be recoated as necessary. Silicone lasts a bit longer, but cannot be recoated. When the silicone ages out, all is removed and the whole process done over again.
