If there are no upper cabinets, are there windows on that wall, or just blank space? Wondering if wall mounted lights would help provide task lighting, in addition to the recessed. Otherwise, recessed lights that point straight down, would probably work fine if placed maybe 12 inches from the wall. The ceiling should be fairly close to 8 ft there. Or a hanging light bar that would give more light than a typical pendant?

Is this a new build? Maybe your architect can offer a suggestion?

It is a new build, but we have a joke going that our architect would charge us handsomely to say "thank you" if we wished him a happy birthday. ;-)

There are windows across most of the work wall, however there is about a foot of wall above the windows where we could have wall mounted lights. I don't know why that didn't occur to me. I honestly don't know if I've ever seen wall lighting in a kitchen IRL, believe it or not. Thank you for the suggestion!

For the outdoor light -- look for "outdoor light sconces" or "outdoor wall lights" .....

..... or for an articulated arm light -- then check out "wall sconces" .....
