Will hanging a chandelier this way look stupid?

| I have a post and beam reproduction of an 18th century New England saltbox house. I would like to hang a chandelier in a second floor room but due to the insulation of the attic, hardwiring this chandelier will be next to impossible (it's a long story and I won't bore you with it). Couldn't I rig up this chandelier to plug into a wall outlet and turn it on with a switch in the cord? Now how to hang it so it won't look stupid? The chandelier will be about 2-3 feet from a drapery valance which I could use to hide the cord on its way to the outlet. But how do I hide the 2-3 feet of cord before it gets to the valance? Do I just incorporate it in a chain or cover it with a tube of fabric. I know this latter method would not be used in the 18th century but what else to do? Any ideas? |
